How to Get Silver Lobo Hide
In Final Fantasy XIV, Dawntrail added a host of new materials for players to gather in order to craft all sorts of new items. While many are gatherable through Miner, Botanist, and Fisher, some materials are a pain to get.
Silver Lobo Hides are one of the hard-to-get materials that will either require large sums of gil, large sums of Bicolor Gemstones, or a mountain of patience. This material is used for several level 91 crafts and is not easily obtainable or cheap to buy.
Where to Get Silver Lobo Hides
You'll likely need quite a few Silver Lobo Hides to craft Silver Lobo Leather early on in your crafting journey. There are three main ways to get this material. Methods for obtaining Silver Lobo Hides are listed by most to least recommended.
- Bicolor Gemstones
- Purchase from the Market Board
- Farming the Mob
Bicolor Gemstones
While grinding FATEs doesn't exactly sound fun and can be quite repetitive and tedious, getting your crafting materials this way can serve several purposes. You can choose a job that is close in level to the FATEs you are completing so you can passively gain XP while you farm the currency, and you also will rank your Shared FATEs as you complete them. The higher Shared FATEs you complete, the more rewards unlock from the vendor.
If you're just looking for the materials, the Gemstone Trader in Urqopacha will have them at rank one. The trader is near the Watchunpelo aetheryte at X: 27.4, Y: 11.8 and will trade three Bicolor Gemstones for one Silver Lobo Hide.
Basic non-buffed FATEs offer 16 Bicolor Gemstones per gold-level completion, meaning you can earn five hides per FATE. Some FATEs offer increased rewards and can award far more than that, so look out for FATEs that have an upward facing arrow next to them.
Purchase from the Market Board
The method is tried and true, buying the materials off the market board is a sure way to get them quickly and without much effort, but there is a high cost involved. In order to craft the level 91 collectable Rarefied Loboskin Fingerless Gloves enough times to level your Leatherworker to 95, you'll need 200 Silver Lobo Hides to turn into leather.
At the time of writing, Silver Lobo Hides are going for anywhere between 1,500 to 2,000 gil, meaning you'll need between 300-400 thousand gil, not including what it will cost to get the Eblan Alumen that's also needed to craft the leather. But, if you've got the gil to spare and don't want to invest the time to gather it yourself, this is a great option.
Farming the Mob
The least recommended option and the one that will no doubt take the longest is farming them from Silver Lobos, which are found southwest of the Wachunpelo aetheryte. There's no guarantee that a hide will drop, and the mods are not easily farmed, meaning you'll have to run around killing each one for a chance at getting the material to drop.
Silver Lobos seem to be plentiful in the area, but if luck isn't on your side, it could take you far longer to farm for the hides instead of taking the more sure route of FATE farming.
