How to Defeat Susano
The first Primal you face in FFXIV: Stormblood is no joke! With plenty of AoE attacks and a weird mid fight mini-game, Susano can throw an unprepared group into chaos. Don't worry though, as we've got some tips to make your first time experience an enjoyable one!
Susano
Like many Primal fights, there are three sections to Susano. Each phase offers something different, so be prepared for a long, AoE intensive fight!
Phase 1
His first phase is straight-forward, but requires lots of teamwork from the 7 people not tanking the boss.
- Rasen Kaikyo - This is one of his primary attacks. It forms several large circles on the ground. Simply run out of them as soon as possible.
- Stacking Attack - At random, he will mark someone with a giant indicator. When this happens, all the DPS and Healers should stack on this person to mitigate the total damage. If no one stacks, that person will likely be one-shot.
- Dark Clouds - Throughout the fight he will summon stormclouds on the outside ring. They will charge up then blast lightning across the arena. Simply dodge out of the AoE. The longer the fight goes, the more lines there are to dodge.
- Single Target Mark - Throughout the fight he will mark someone with a small target. This person will then get knocked back. The line that they travelled during the knockback then becomes a safe zone, while the rest of the arena gets hit with an AoE. For this reason, all DPS and Healers should strive to stay near the back of Susano at all times, so they can quickly position in the tiny safe zone.
- Combo - As the fight goes on, he begins to combo his skills together. This makes it vitally important that everyone stays near his back, in order to mitigate damage and gather in safe zones.
Phase 2
This phase of the fight will begin after a set time has passed. You will likely have the boss around 50-60% when it occurs.
- Blade's Shadow - One of the two tanks should immediately click the Blade's Shadow. This will lock them in a Quick Time Event where they need to click a button rapidly. It's not very tough, even a moderate click speed will suffice, just don't let the bar empty out.
- Orbs - The other tank needs to run around the arena collecting/running into the orbs that appear. If he doesn't, they slowly float towards the middle of the arena and will kill everyone.
- Sword Clash - All the DPS and Healers should be attacking the sword. You have a set duration, (30 seconds) to do damage to it and knock the sword back. Healer's should also keep an eye on the tank who is absorbing the orb damage, to ensure that person doesn't die.
After the Active Time Event, a large red AoE appears. Simply get out of the way, or else you'll be one shot!
Phase 3
Phase 3 of the fight is the same as Phase 1, with a few exceptions.
- Stormsplitter - This is a tank buster. It's a forward firing line attack. It will deal around 10k damage, more or less depending on gear. A cooldown should be used during this, and only the main tank should be hit.
- Ama-no-Iwato (Gaols) - Much like Titan, Susano will entrap a person in a stone prison. However, this time two other prisons will appear, and then they start rotating around to try and confuse you. You'll only have time to smash one prison, so it's imperative when you see Susano start summoning these, that you pay attention to who gets trapped and where they end up. You can tell when he is about to use this ability, because he will talk about Earth and Stone.
- Lightning Blast - Throughout Phase 3, Susano will let out a small burst of lightning, then a giant ring of it. There is no way to avoid it, this is a Healer check. As soon as you see the first blast of lightning, prepare your strong AoE heals because the second blast of lightning will hit about 1.5 seconds later, dealing several thousand damage.
