How to Unfuse Weapons
There are many new features in Tears of the Kingdom, but one compelling mechanic is Link's ability to fuse resources with his weapons. With countless materials you can use to create near-limitless equipment variations, here's a quick manual on unfusing weapons and shields in TotK.
How to Fuse Weapons
Once you've gained the Fuse ability from one of the introductory shrines on the , you can start fusing any weapon or shield with materials you see in the overworld. The possibilities are endless, from putting spikes on your shield to attaching a rock to your sword—you can fuse just about anything.
- When the Fuse ability highlights a material, aim at it, then press either Y to fuse it with your weapon or ZL for your shield.
How to Unfuse
With the power of fusing so many different things together, it'll happen that you aren't pleased with some of the fusion equipment you've created. Luckily, there are two ways of separating the two fused elements, one of which results in the loss of the fused material. But it's a free and quick way to separate a fused item that you can do anywhere. The other way involves paying a character named Pelison, which prevents the destruction of the fused element.
Though this method will let you remove fused weapons by destroying the material, there is an NPC that will help you disassemble them without wasting the attached resource.
How to Save the Fused Material - Find Pelison
In the early game, you're limited to removing fused materials from weapons and shields using the first method. Still, as you progress through the main storyline, you'll encounter Pelison, a unique NPC in the heart of the Akkala Highlands. Pelison is a young Goron who is standing on a wooden platform in Tarrey Town and can help you unfuse your creations for a price.
At his Break-a-Part Shop in Tarrey Town, you can pay Pelison 20 Rupees to break down the fused weapon, and you'll get to keep the material you used as well. To grab the two items, look to his left in the collection area and pick up your stuff as usual.
- Keep in mind that if you're detaching a Zonai Device from your weapon, you'll still be unable to put them back into its capsule form.
