How to Buff and Repair Weapons or Shields
Repairing your weapons and shields in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom differs a bit from doing so in most other open-world games. You will not be visiting a blacksmith or using a forge to fix your own axes and swords, but rather making use of an enemy of all things.
Unlike Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom has a system in place allowing players to buff and repair their weapons. This system, however, is strange to say the least. If you want some repairs, you are going to have to find one of the notoriously annoying Octorok enemies and hand your weapon or shield over to it.
Yes, you read that right. Chuck a bow, shield, or sword at an Octorok and it will vacuum it right up into its mouth. Then, it will spit it back out at you, repaired and even buffed. If you happen to have a rusty weapon, you can also throw it an Octorok's way to get it back as a regular and not rusted weapon!
How Octorok Buffs and Repairs Work
Each buff given by an Octorok is random. You can, however, cheese this by saving and reloading until you get the buff that you were hoping for. So, save before you throw your weapon and then if you throw it at a Rock Octorok and get a buff you do not particularly like, simply reload to the save you made and try again.
Sadly, there are some limits to the Octorok's abilities. Not all weapons can be repaired, specifically those that were brought into the game by use of amiibos. Each Rock Octorok can also only repair one item and do so just once, which means that you will need to look out for more or await the Blood Moon if you have multiple items you are wanting to chuck their way.
Best Octorok Locations
While you can find the handy Rock Octoroks all around the Eldin Mountains, there are particular hotspots to look out for. It is important to note that one Octorok can repair one weapon, so you may need to look in multiple places. If you are not afraid of a little more difficulty during your endeavor, you can also wait for a blood moon so more of the monsters spawn.
There are multiple shrines you can teleport to so as to save time. Start by traveling to the Marakuguc Shrine as shown below in the Death Mountain region for easier and quicker access to the Octorok-heavy areas. Once there, you can set off to the locations detailed below.
The first place you can check out is the quarry that is right above Goron City, just to the east of Darunia Lake. This is a vast open space and therefore good place to come across many of the land-dwelling beasts. While the quarry is most ideal, you can also search for Rock Octoroks at the river left of the Goron settlement.
You can also travel to the Momosik Shrine as shown above instead, where you will find a few Octoroks nearby. The Sitsum Shrine depicted below is a good option, too, as you can paraglide from the top of Death Mountain to open ledges where Rock Octoroks reside.
