How to Farm Rupees in TotK
Regardless of how much money you may have amassed in the previous game, Link will once again awaken without a rupee to his name in Tears of the Kingdom. Finding ways to amass a fortune won’t be easy, but we have a great method to farm rupees in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
And it's not bowling. Pondo’s Lodge has been hit by the Upheaval, putting an end to the lucrative and exploitable Snowball Bowling minigame.
How to Farm Rupees in Tears of the Kingdom
The quick summary of the method is that you can quickly turn a pile of cooked meat into a pile of cash fast — if you know where to hunt.
Looking for a Cheat?
There's a way to duplicate Diamonds for especially quick cash - but it's definitely cheating because it takes advantage of a glitch. See how to use the duplication glitch in Tears of the Kingdom.
regional phenomena main quest near Rito Village first. Until it's complete, a blizzard which has apparently driven all the animals away will continue to rage.
Once that's done, check up in the northwest regions of the Hebra Mountains and Tabantha Frontier--there’s a large snowfield in the upper east edge of the region, just above the large canyon that separates the region from the Hyrule Ridge. It’s home to the Snowfield Stable, and is a prime spot for getting a lot of meat to cook fairly quickly.
Then, all you’ll need is a trusty horse (see How to Get a Horse) , a good amount of arrows, and warm weather gear, food, or elixirs (see How to Stay Warm - Cold Resistance Armor and Recipes). Note that you can score the Warm Archaic Greaves for free in the starting Great Sky Island.
Once in Tabantha Tundra (use the Orochium Shrine at the Snowfield Stable to warp there again), circle around the large snowfield from bottom to top, and look out for these animals:
- Tabantha Moose
- Cold-footed wolves.
- Grizzlemaw Bear
Once you draw near, jump off your horse into the air, and slow time by drawing your bow to get a headshot and instantly put down the animals. Make sure to pick up the meat before it freezes! They’ll each drop an assortment of Raw Prime Meat and Gourmet Meat (Moose and Bear will drop three, and Wolves drop two).
Unlike monsters, animals will continually respawn outside of Blood Moons, so you never have to worry about running out of hunting opportunities. With a bit of luck, you’ll stand to make thousands of rupees an hour with this method.
Cook five Gourmet Meat together in a cooking pot to make a Meat Skewer that sells for 315 Rupees. Five Prime Meat cooked together will sell for 135 rupees.
Be sure as you make your loop between the South Tabantha Snowfield and North Tabantha Snowfields that you steer clear of the western edge by the start of the mountains, as a Frost Gleeok miniboss will fly around the area. If spotted, it shouldn’t be hard to outrun it on horseback until it loses interest, but it’s better to not have its triple frost beams interrupt your hunting.
Other Money Making Tips
That’s the best method we’ve found for making money quickly so far, but there are a few more tips:
- Help Addison put up the President Hudson Signs when you see him - he almost always rewards rupees.
- Shoot Blupees repeatedly for quick money. Jump from a ledge to paraglide then take out your bow in mid-air to slow down time to get multiple shots off fast and easily.
- Catch Star Fragments while falling.
- Mine caves and the depths for rare ore deposits. Gold sparkles indicate a rare ore, like Ruby or Sapphire. These items are also very useful for weapon fusing, and even occasionally armor upgrading, though, so consider selling these carefully.
- Shoot off dragon parts. These sell for a high price, but are also incredibly useful for weapon fusing, and occasionally, upgrading armor at Great Fairy Fountains.
