Demo Walkthrough: How to Get 1500 Sparklium
Welcome to IGN's Pikmin 4 Wiki Guide! On this page, you can find a walkthrough of the demo that picks up after the Prologue and Exploration Day 1, which acts as a tutorial for the game.
By Day 2, you can explore the Sun-Speckled Terrace however you like. To complete the demo, you'll need to collect 1,500 Sparklium, so this guide will take you through how to achieve that objective by Day 3. We'll also detail how to complete caves, find Treasures, and pick up missing crew members along the way.

Exploration Day 2: Sun-Speckled Terrace
With Day 1 Exploration wrapped up, it's time to begin Day 2, where you'll be able to hop into the S.S. Shepherd and head off on your first outing.
Speak to Colin when you're ready, and he'll tell you that the Tablet has been upgraded with some new apps. Once that conversation is over, you'll be able to set off and explore the Sun-Speckled Terrace.
Traveling to the Sun-Speckled Terrace
Now that you've landed at the Sun-Speckled Terrace, your job is to find 1,200 more Sparklium. First, the Captain will explain how the clock in the left-hand corner of the screen works. You only have a certain amount of time that you can explore each day before you need to return with your Pikmin to the base. Anyone Pikmin that doesn't make it back to the base before sundown will be lost, so be mindful of that when exploring!
The onion has also traveled with you to the Sun-Speckled Terrace, so you can collect your Pikmin and put them to work as you explore the area. Get as many Pikmin out of the Onion as possible, then begin to head north.
You'll be stepped along the way, where the Captain will explain how to use Oatchi to sniff out Rescue Officers. Press Y, then move to the left of the wheel to Command. Then select Scent.
Collin will also explain the Dandori technique that you'll need to utilize in the game. This is the art of organizing tasks strategically and working with maximum efficiency to execute your plans quickly.
So, here's how we recommend tackling day 2:
Find the First Cave - the Last-Frost Cavern
Set Oatchi to pick up the scent of the missing Rescue Officers. Follow this scent river to the creature and the wall. Send your Pikmin off to break down the wall, and Oatchi will pick the scent up once again. When the wall has been demolished, a Pikmin will pick up a rock- which happens to be an important Raw Material.
Go Inside the First Cave
Now that the wall is down, you can head straight up and find your first cave. You can choose how many Pikmin to take with you, so take as many as possible and then jump down into it.
When you're down below, you might notice that the clock doesn't appear on the screen so you can take as long as you like in the caves.
Oatchi will pick up the scent you were following above, so head forwards toward the broken pots. Clear the area of creatures, then smash each of the breakable pots on the left.
The Pikmin will pick up the bodies of the slain creatures, converting them into Sparklium-but just a tiny amount.
The first treasure can be found here on the ledge with the broken pot around it. It will require 7 Pikmin to drag it back to the S.S. Beagle.
Grab the Pikmin from the S.S. Beagle and continue onwards to smash a second lot of pots. This will reveal a path and smash and some nectar. Throw the Pikmin onto the nectar to have them sprout flowers and grow. This means they can now move faster.
Go up the ramp towards the creature fighting the wild Blue Pikmin. Throw your Red Pikmin at it and try to approach it from behind. When it's defeated, collect the Blue Pikmin, which are Ice Pikmin to join your group.
Continue onwards, smash the pot on the left, and then head towards the paper bag. Push this down the Paper Bag using 10 Pikmin, to create a shortcut back to the S.S. Beagle.
Collect the Raw Material from the broken pot next to the Paper Bag and take out the creatures in the area. This will have given the Pikmin time to return the Raw Material and any bodies from the creatures around. Now head down the slope created by the Paper Bag to collect the Pikmin from the S.S. Beagle and return to the area.
Ignore the blue blobs (which are Hydro Jelly) blocking the pathway for now, and go to the purple shrub next to it. Pick up the paint tube using 5 Pikmin.
While 5 Pikmin drag this back to the S.S. Beagle, go to the right, break the pots, and collect the additional blue Pikmin. Beyond the broken pots, there'll be an onion trapped in dirt. Send over 5 Pikin to excavate it.
Let them take it back to S.S. Beagle. While the Pikmin are doing this, go over to the Hydro Jelly and throw blue Pikmin at them. This will freeze it and then allow you to hit it with either Oatchi or additional Pikmin.
Continue on to find the Castaway and use 3 Pikmin to transport the Castaway back to the S.S. Beagle. The Castaway will be identified as Russ the Scientist, and you'll be free to exit the Last-Frost Cavener, with your completion results displayed on the screen as you do so.

Don't worry about collecting your Pikmin from the S.S. Beagle before leaving, as they'll automatically come with you when you exit the cave.
Back on the Surface
The Onion will suck up the one you found down below, which is actually Flarlic, and increase the amount of Pikmin you can have in your crew at one time by 10. Now continue onwards from the cave (going south) and towards the creature where there's another set of pink stone circles.
Defeat the creature, and you can call over the S.S. Beagle, making it easier to deliver resources and get hold of your Pikmin.
Go towards the dotted creatures, and lock on to it using ZR. Try to stay behind it as you throw your Pikmin and Oatchi to defeat it. Drink the red nectar if it drops any, to learn that this is Ultra-Spicy Spray. You'll then be given a quick walkthrough on how to use items.
Follow this path up to the right, and up the slope, taking out the creatures here on the way. If you look to the left, you'll see an electric gate. Take note of it but ignore it for now, as you continue up the slope.
You'll come to a section where there's Raw Material on the left and a dotty creature by a clock, which is a Treasure, on the right. Take the right to head towards the dotty creature. Before you fight it, however, go to the slope down on the left. Use Oatchi and the Pikmin to pull the dirt away from the gap, to create a shortcut back to the S.S. Beagle.
Then lock on to the creature and attack it. When it's dead, send the creature's body back to the S.S. Beagle, as well as the Treasure, by getting 7 Pikmin to carry it.
While the Pikmin are carrying the creature and terasure back, set the rest of them on the wall by the fence to demolish it and open up the next section. When you're through here, go forward towards the Paper Bag, and red and yellow Binoculars on the right-hand side on the ledge.
Get 10 Pikmin to lower the Paper Bag while you send 12 Pikmin up to pick up the Red and Yellow Binoculars and take them back.
Double Dragon-Eyed Scope - 180 Sparklium
Whistle for the Pikmin that dropped the Paper Bag and turn right from the Binoculars. Here you'll see a mound of dirt covering the entrance to the second cave. Send your Pikmina and Oatchi out to dig up the dirt pile and uncover the next cave.
When the Treasure has been delivered to the Beagle, drop down below.
Enter the Second Cave - Crackling Cauldron
Go forward and break the two eggs. Set any Pikmin on the nectar that haven't already sprouted flowers to increase their speed. Go right and behind the slope, defeat the creature, and let the Pikmin take its body back to the S.S. Beagle along with any Raw Material. Continue forward on this path.
Take out the flying bugs turn left and get 5 Pikin to collect the Treasure.
Turn right Pluck the Yellow Pikmin, which are electric Pikmin.
Then turn right again from here, and go up to the slope. Set the Yellow Pikmin to excavate the treasure have 3 of them take it back to the S.S. Beagle.
Face away from where you collected the Treasure to continue onwards. As you enter the next section, look to the left to see yellow Pikmin you can Whistle at and collect from the top of the can.
Go forward and be prepared to take out the flying creature that will appear as you approach the patrolling one. When all the creatures are cleared from the area, get 10 Pikmin to lower the Paper Bag to create a shortcut back to the S.S. Beagle, and get the rest of the Pikmin to collect the Raw Material.
Go back to the S.S. Beagle and collect the Pikmin, then set 10 of the Yellow Pikmin on the electric gate to break it. Go up the slope, slay the creature, and send 10 Pikmin to hang from the Treasure off the ledge.
Once all rocks and treasures have been transported open the hatch to go to the second level of the cave. Don't worry about collecting Pikmin, they'll come with you.
Second Level of the Crackling Cauldron
On this level, you'll need to use red Pikmin to destroy the blocks of lava. As you land, send the Red Pikmmin off to the right to destroy the lava, send two Pikmin to the eggs to break them, and get the Yellow Pikmin working on the electric gate to the left.
While they work on the gate, get the rest of the Pikmin to defeat the flying creature and collect the Raw Material. Transport all rocks and go collect your Pikmin, take the slop up to the right where the fire was extinguished first. Set the red Pikmin off to extinguish the vast lava floor, then get 12 Pikmin to collect the treasure from the center.
While they take this back, pluck the Yellow Pikmin from the broken plant pot behind. Now go left and send the Red Pikmin off to extinguish the fires. As you approach the furthest fire, a circular rock will start to move toward you. You'll need to attack this but use the Red Pikmin first to extinguish the fire.
Once it's defeated, you'll find a pink stone circle where you can move the S.S. Beagle to bring it closer to you. Collect the Raw Materials, demolish the wall, and throw 4 Yellow Pikmin up the ledge to collect each of the Treasures (you'll need 3 Pikmin for each).
Go through the broken walkway to find the Castaway. Use Red Pikmin to extinguish the floor, throw a Pikmin or two to defeat the flying creature, then go left to collect more yellow Pikmin. Throw 3 yellow Pikmin up to collect the Castay and have him taken back to the S.S. Beagle.
It turns out Schnauz isn't a Rescue Officer, but is in fact a Treasure Appraiser. This will unlock an additional main mission Rescue All Castaways, where you'll also need to search for civilians. With all of the treasures collected and Schnauz found, you can return to the S.S. Beagle, and go left to exit the cave.

Back on the Surface Again
Now that you've collected some Yellow Pikmin, you can tackle the gate that we saw earlier. Go to where you pushed the Paper Bag down or drop down to the west and throw your Yellow Pikmin at the electric gate.
As soon as it's broken, go up the ramp and head left (making your way south). Time will be getting on now, and it'll be close to the end of the day, so you'll need to be quick with the next two actions.
Keep going south, but turn off to the left (and face towards the east) just as you reach the treasure.
You'll want to have 10 Pikmin lowering the Paper Bag to create a shortcut back to the S.S. Beagle and send 2 Yellow Pikmin up to collect the Treasure. When you've assigned these actions, start heading back towards the S.S. Beagle to wrap up the day and keep all your Pikmin safe.
You should have just enough time for the Pikmin to make it back with the Treasure and all of them to be safe before it gets dark. At the end of Day 2, you should end on around 1330 Sparklium (taking into account creatures defeated too, so this might be slightly different if you've engaged in more or less combat). If you're ready to end the day before the timer counts down, press - to do so and select End Day.
Exploration Day 3: Sun-Speckled Terrace
After completing Exploration Day 2, you should be well on your way to 1500 Sparklium by now. With Russ back, we'll now learn just how important those Raw Materials are that we've been collecting.
As Day 3 begins, you'll be returned to the main base near the S.S. Shepherd, and Oatchi will have had a little growth spurt overnight. This will also mean that you can now ride Oatchi, and jump up to smaller ledges, steps, and platforms that were previously inaccessible.
As for Russ, he'll begin to explain how Raw Materials can be transformed into Clay, allowing you to complete structures like unfinished bridges. Before you go back to the Sun-Speckled Terrace be sure to speak to Russ to visit the lab and begin the Side Mission: Acquire All Gear from the Lab. This is where you'll learn that you can use Raw Materials to unlock Gear and Items as well.
Be sure to speak to Captain Shepherd too, as you'll also be able to start the Side Mission: Learn All Oatchi's Skills. When you're ready to go, speak to Collin to jet back to the Sun-Speckled Terrace and pick up where you left off.
Back at the Sun-Speckled Terrace
Before you head off, be sure to get out all your Pikmin. We'd recommend a balanced crew of each type you've unlocked so far. If you've been following our walkthrough, the last thing you will have done is broken the electric gate and pushed the Paper Bag down to create a shortcut back to the base. Now go back up that Paper Bag, and towards the area in the west.
You'll come to a large dotty creature and a smaller one. Up above you'll be able to see a Pumpkin, but we'll come to that later. Slay the creatures to unlock a new pink stone circle where you can move your base. Move the base, then go towards the west even further.
Head towards the brick wall and tuck into the small alcove on the right. Here you can send in Oatchi and the Pikmin to dig up a patch and expose some extra Raw Materials. When that's done, go directly opposite here, so you're heading underneath the broken bridge. Loop up the path and take out the small creatures that appear. At the top, take down the large dotty creature and use 23 Pikmin to construct the bridge to cross over.
As you walk over, on the left, you'll see a Castaway and two creatures. They'll drag the castaway into a cave, so we'll want to follow them. But hold off on doing that for now and instead go all the way to the right towards the Pumpkin. Along the way, on the left is a bush that has Raw Materials inside.
Send your Pikmin to collect these and take them back to the S.S. Beagle, but keep 10 yellow Pikmin. Throw these 10 Pikmin onto the raised bridge before the Pumpkin to pull it down and make your way over to it.
You'll need all 30 of your Pikmin (or 27 and Oatchi) to help drag this back, so pick up those that have returned from collecting the Raw Material. Once the Pumpkin has been dragged back to the S.S. Beagle, go over to the cave and hop in.
Trial Run - Rescued the Kidnapped Castaway
This is a trial run cave where you have only 4 minutes to complete the task. Your Pikmin can't come with you for this one, but you will be able to get hold of some inside the cave. This will be a Dandori Battle against the mysterious stranger who stole the Castaway, and you'll go head to head. The aim is to get more points than your opponent in the 4 minutes.
As soon as the battle begins, pick up any Pikmin that have already spawned and use the flowers surrounding you to immediately expand the size of your crew. Then immediately head for the mounds of sand and uncover the largest Treasures you can.
Then you should generally aim for the Treasures, creatures, and additional flowers to keep growing your army of Pikmin. You want to make sure your Pikmin are always doing something, so look above for Treasure at it spawns, and knock down walls to get hold of Raw Materials.
Once the time trial is over, and you've beaten your opponent, you'll be able to rescue the mysterious Castaway, though no identification is possible at this time.
Back Outside the Cave
When you're back on the surface, go northwest towards the body of water where another cave stands. Ignore it, and instead smash the breakable pots on the left to uncover two Buttons. Get your Pikmin to drag these back to the S.S. Beagle.
This will take you to 1500 Sparklium, which is all you need to complete the demo. However, the days not over so there's time to get lots more. Go over to the mound of Raw Material on the right and get this transported back to the S.S. Beagle, then return to where you originally landed for Exploration Day 3 - in the pink stone circles in the center near the water and the broken bridge.
Use 23 Raw Material to rebuild the bridge, while also transporting the Raw Material pile next to the bridge back to the S.S. Beagle. Ride Oatchi and jump up to catch the strawberry. Send 3 Pikmin to collect it, then hop up again to find another cave.
Enter the Industrial Maze
Take Yellow and Red Pikmin with you into this cave, and then drop down inside. Once you've landed, you'll see lots of conveyor belts moving in various directions. Oatchi, unfortunately, hasn't managed to land with you. So the first task is to get him back to you!
Press Y to open the Actions wheel, then go down to Switch. This will allow you to play as Oatch. When you take over as Oatchi, head west. Ride the conveyor belt over to the Pikmin and the button. Jump onto the red button to change the direction of the conveyor belts.
Now head towards the conveyor belt in the south, and press rush to get across it. Then take the conveyor belt to the left to reunite Oatchi with the group.
Swap back to your character, and ride Oatchi. Head for the first conveyor belt and Rush against it to move forward. Ride the second one across to the breakable pots. Smash these with Rush, then get 2 Pikmin to pick up the puzzle piece.
The Pikmin may become stuck, so follow those that are heading toward the wind in the northeast that will propel you up. Jump into it, landing on the platform with the button. Press the button to change the direction of the walkway, and pluck the yellow Pikmin from the ground.
Jump on the button again, take the conveyor belt across the walkway to the Raw material pile in the east, and get 20 Pikmin to pick it up.
Look up just to the right of the Raw materials and assign 5 yellow Pikmin to the Skateboard. Rush back to the button and use this to help the Pikmin get the treasure back safely.
Now go collect all of the Pikmin and return to where you collected the Skateboard and go left. Break the wall and enter the second level of the Industrial Maze. As you land, ride Oatchi and go north up the steps. Jump up here and rush to break the pots. Assign 3 Pikmin to collect the rubber duck and take it back.
Continue north and ride the platform over to the button. Press the button. Go back to the moving platform, drop down below, and get the Pikmin to carry the Raw Material back to the S.S. Beagle. Pluck the yellow Pikmin from the ground and ride the wind back up to the platform.
You can now go west as the bars have dropped. Go left and get 10 Pikmin to push the Paper Bag down, then assign the rest to break the electric wall down on the right.
Once the wall has been demolished on the right, go into this section and move the S.S. Beagle here. Get 7 Pikmin to excavate the toy train in the dirt mound to the left.
Go back to where the Paper Bag was and take 15 Pikmin with you to pick up the Magnifying Glass.
Now use Oatchi to smash the breakable pots and gain access to the Castaway. Assign 3 Yellow Pikmin to collect the castaway and it will be revealed as Kingsly the Florist. He's not a Castaway but another civilian.
When that's all done, go to the exit, which can be found where the Paper Bag and electrified wall was. Head back to the surface, and at this point, you should have over 2200 Sparklium and have completed the Great Adventure Series!
When you collect all the Treasures in a series, you'll receive a Medal and bonus Sparklium.

Now go back to the surface, and the day should be coming to a close again. Head back to the S.S. Beagle, and wrap up the day. You'll have completed the Expanded Radar Search Range mission with the additional Sparklium you've collected, and the next target will be to reach 4000 Sparklium.
