Oatchi Guide - Skills, Upgrades, and Tips
Oatchi is your faithful companion in Pikmin 4, who will help you run around, collect Treasures, fight off creatures, and more. As your Pikmin team gets bigger, the sublevel caves get more dangerous, and the Treasures heavier, you'll need Oatchi to be upgraded to keep up. On this page of IGN's Pikmin 4 Guide, we'll explain how to upgrade Oatchi's skills, the gear you can get him, and tips for using Oatchi in the best way.
How to Upgrade Oatchi's Skills
On Exploration Day 1, you'll rescue Captain Shepherd, who is responsible for training Oatchi. Before you set off for Day 2 of your exploration, you should speak to Captain Shepherd and begin her Side Mission: Train a Rescue Pup.

This will unlock the ability to see and upgrade Oatchi's abilities. In order to upgrade them, you'll have to spend Pup Drive points. You can upgrade Oatchi to suit your playstyle, but we'd recommend focusing on Buff and Super Buff first, then Rush and Super Rush make it easier to carry larger Treasures and tackle creatures from the get-go.

| Doggy-Paddle | Allows Oatchi to swim and carry Pikmin on his back through the water |
| Jump | Once Oatchi learns jump you can ride around on him and jump up small ledges |
| Pluck | With this, Oatchi can help you pluck Pikmin from the ground |
| Dig | Oatchi can dig quickly when this is upgraded |
| Heal | Allows Oatchi to heal faster |
| Command | Increases the number of things that Oatchi can track down using a scent |
How to Earn Pup Drive Points
Whenever Oatchi rescues a castaway, he'll earn Pup Drive points. These are used to upgrade each skill for multiple levels. You can also earn Pup Drive points by completing Night Expeditions.
How to Upgrade Oatchi's Gear
Gear for Oatchi (and your character) becomes available as soon as you rescue Russ from the Last-Frost Cavern in the Sun-Speckled Terrace. Russ will then begin creating Gear and Items that you can purchase for Raw Material. Below is the list of all available gear for Oatchi.
