Onion Locations

If you want to grow your Pikmin population, you're going to need Onions! Onions come in a variety of colors to match the different Pikmin types you can find in the game. The sooner you find these Onions, the easier exploration and collecting everything from Treasures, castaways, and Flarlics will become. On this page of IGN's Pikmin 4 guide, you can find maps and explanations of where to find every Onion.

All Onion Locations

There are a total of 21 Onions to find across the game (these include Flarlics) but only 10 of these are colored Onions. You'll pick up your very first Onion as you collect your initial batch of Sparklium in Exploration Day 1. This Red Onion will create Red Pikmin, meaning they're going to make up most of your team in the early stages. However, it's not long before you'll be able to pick up Onions of different colors, and as you leave the first area, you can already have up to 3 fused.

Rescue Command Post Onions

Rescue Command Post - Red Onion

This Onion is picked up from the Rescue Command Post, as part of the first Exploration Day. It's found to the left of the Stone of Advancement treasure.

Sun-Speckled Terrace Onions

• Yellow Onion
• Blue Onion

Sun-Speckled Terrace - Yellow Onion

This Onion can be found in the eastern part of the Sun-Speckled Terrace, opposite the breakable pots and Dandori Cave surrounded by water. Use Pikmin to flatten the bag so you can gain access to it.

Sun-Speckled Terrace - Blue Onion

The Blue Onion can be found on the other side of the body of water, next to the second base you'll come to. You'll need 30 Ice Pikmin to be able to freeze the water and get it brought back across.

Blossoming Arcadia Onion

• Yellow Onion

Blossoming Arcadia - Yellow Onion

Can be found down in the southern part of the Blossoming Arcadia after completing the Kingdom of Beasts cave.

Serene Shores Onion

• Blue Onion

Serene Shores - Blue Onion

Hero's Hideaway Onion

Hero's Hideaway - Light Blue Onion

Find the Light Blue Onion in Hero's Hideaway -- you can now expand your army of Ice Pikmin without delving into caves.

Mysterious Cave Onions

• White Onion
• Purple Onion

This cave can only be unlocked by completing Captain Olimar's Shipwreck Tale. You can play this mini-game after rescuing Olimar and completing the game up to the first ending. The Mysterious Cave will then become available in the Rescue Command Post.

Mysterious Cave - White Onion

This can be found on the 5th level of the Mysterious Cave and is a reward for completing the Dandori Challenge on this level.

Mysterious Cave - Purple Onion

This can be found on the 10th level of the Mysterious Cave and is a reward for completing the Dandori Challenge on this level.

Giant's Hearth Onion

Giant's Hearth - Black Onion

The Black Onion can be found in Giant's Hearth, in the southern part of the area behind the hearth. You'll need 3 Bomb Rocks to break down the reinforced wall it sits behind.

Primordial Thicket Onion

• Pink Onion

Primordial Thicket - Pink Onion

The Pink Onion can be found in the Primordial Thicket, on the surface. It's in the southeast corner near a Dandori Cave.
