How to Make the Best Recipes
In Zelda, Crafting with Cooking in Breath of the Wild is a simple process:
You will want to carefully consider what you mix together if you want to make the most effective dishes in BotW.
Cooking boils down to two main types of dishes—meals and elixirs. Meals are made of food items such as meat, vegetables, and fruit. Elixirs are made from monster parts, bugs, and small creatures. With the right ingredients, your concoctions can produce buffs. Elixirs are mainly for buffs, not healing, though you can make elixirs that give Link additional hearts.

Buff Types
There are 10 types of buffs in Breath of the Wild. They are
- Hearty (Grants temporary bonus hearts)
- Enduring?(Grants temporary bonus stamina)
- Energizing (Restores stamina)
- Chilly (Boosts heat resistance)
- Spicy (Boosts cold resistance)
- Electro (Boosts electricity resistance)
- Hasty (Boosts movement speed)
- Sneaky (Boosts stealth)
- Mighty (Boosts attack)
- Tough (Boosts defense)
To tell if an ingredient has a certain quality, look at the name! It usually says the type right in the name (i.e. Mighty Porgy) or is synonymous with the quality (i.e. Silent Princess).
The Best Ingredients
There are tons of ingredients to gather and mix together, but only a few offer the most bang for your buck, so to speak. You'll want to track down the following ingredients if you want the biggest perks added to your meals.
A few tips before cooking the crème de la crème of meals and elixirs.
- Do not mix buffs. They will cancel out and provide no buff at all.
- Make sure to keep elixir ingredients with elixir ingredients. Cross over will ruin the dish and become useless.
- Adding more of the ingredient to the dish will increase the buff. Adding four chillshrooms to a chunk of raw meat will be more effective against the heat than a meal with two or three chillshrooms.
- In meals, the more meat you cook with, the more health you can recover. This means fewer buff ingredients. Balance to your needs!
- Putting four buff items in an elixir is more beneficial than four in a meal.
