Dinraal
Dinraal is a one-of-a-kind creature in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It's a massive, fiery sky dragon that flies over Hyrule in a long, circuitous route. Learn Dinraal's path in TotK, tips for landing on it, and what materials it drops with this enemy guide.
Official Description: "A spirit of fire has taken the form of this giant dragon. Making its home in the Eldin region. It's said to have served the Spring of Power since ancient times. The flames that coat its body can make the surrounding area blazing hot, but Dinraal bears no ill will toward people. Few have seen it in the current age."

Dinraal Path and Location in TotK
Dinraal, the Great Fire Spirit Dragon, patrols the skies on the north side of Death Mountain, and coasts along the upper edge of Hyrule past the Akkala Tech Lab all the way to the Thyphlo Ruins in the Great Hyrule Forest.
Dinraal Path Map
You can often spot him appearing from the East Akkala Plains Chasm, directly east of the Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower, before he floats along the coastline towards the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, and then cuts across west past Skull Lake and continues on the northern slopes of Death Mountain. He'll finally curve around the Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower before disappearing into the nearby Drenan Highlands Chasm.
If you follow him underground, you'll find he takes a nearly identical route back through the Depths, unlike the other two dragons. He'll skirt along the north edge of the map on the way back, above the Gleeok Den and circling around the Fire Temple area before cutting down to the east of the Wellspring of Power to reach the chasm back up into Akkala.
Common Locations:
- Eldin Mountains
- Deep Akkala
Tips for Landing on Dinraal
- Dinraal makes the air surrounding it dangerously hot and standing on it causes unbearable heat. Bring some Fire-resistant protection to mitigate the damage, like an Elixer made of Fireproof Lizards or the Flamebreaker Armor Set, purchasable in Goron City.
- The best place to try to hitch a ride on Dinraal is at the East Akkala Plains Chasm where it comes up out of the Depths.
Dinraal Recoverable Materials
There are five materials you can recover from Dinraal. Other than the Spikes, you can only gain one of each material from Dinraal every ten minutes.
- Shard of Dinraal's Spike: These are sticking out of the spikes on Dinraal's back. There are usually 10-12 of them at a time.
- Shard of Dinraal's Fang: You must shoot Dinraal's mouth area to knock one of these loose.
- Shard of Dinraal's Horn: Strike Dinraal's horns to break off a shard.
- Dinraal's Scale: Striking anywhere on Dinraal's body will loosen a scale.
- Dinraal's Claw: You must shoot one of Dinraal's mighty claws to break one off.
