In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Star Pieces are seen around the game's world as you travel to other locations. There are 100 in the entire game. Once you have collected some, you can visit Dazzle in Roqueport Sewers (Near Merluvlee's building) and he will trade you various Badges for them.

This guide uses the same numbers and check divisions in our Walkthrough and Collectibles Guide and is designed for you to get as many Star Pieces as you can as you go through the main story. There is a section for backtracking, since you’ll need some powers you don’t get ‘til later for some.

Prologue Star Pieces

Rogueport City

Atop Zess T’s future shop; the second roof to the left of the roof of the inn. Take a step towards the background.

The building behind the inn where the Shy Guy who steals your money flees to.

Behind the crates to the right side of the main square

Atop some crates in the very back alley of the secret area next to the wizard’s shop in East Rogueport.

Chapter 1 Star Pieces

Petal Meadows

Bash the leftmost tree with hammer right when you come out the entrance pipe. Should fall out.

After making the bridge, head far right towards the background.

Path to Shhwonk Fortress

Search the first patch of grass once you leave Petalburg

Hooktail Castle

In the area with the colored boxes as elevators, take the blue/purple box up to a doorway

In that same area, ride up the yellow box to find a walkway on the left

Near the window you have to walk out of, head to the far right before going to the left

In the room where you must ride another yellow box up to a walkway and a paper plane tile, get on the thin gray edge of the other side of the walkway to the right

Chapter 2 Star Pieces

Rogueport (post-Chapter 1)

Squeeze in a gap behind the Trouble Center. Near some crates and barrels.

West Rogueport. Right behind the brick wall of by the entrance

West Rogueport. Behind the tall warp pipe in the flower garden.

West Rogueport. Far left of the item shop behind the trash can.

Rogueport Sewers (post-Chapter 1)

After falling through the grate in West Rogueport, search behind the corner of the platform you land on

In that same area, jump across the floating platforms to the next area. Look behind the column.

Search the broken pillars in the foreground of the previous star piece

Boggly Woods

In the area with walkable stumps, walk all the way to the left of the blue exclamation box

Once crossing the stump divide (near the Quake Hammer badge), enter the next area. Hit the third tree.

To the left of the pipe that leads to Flurrie’s house

The Great Tree

Search a bush near the hidden item shop

In the room with the warp pipe on the giant stump, check behind the warp pipe on the floor

In the area with the symbols you need to memorize, check behind the warp pipe.

When in pursuit of Lord Crump, check a bush in the area you fight some X-Nauts

East Rogueport. Jump over the gap to some barrels, climb them, and butt stomp the first roof

East Rogueport. Behind the chimney of the Trouble Center.

Rogueport Underground. Near the stopped up pipe to Twilight Town

Behind Gramps’s neighbor’s house on the left.

Search the bush to the front-left of the creepy tree

In the second area of town, look behind the tree to the right of the graveyard.

Twilight Trail

After learning how to roll, roll under the fallen tree. Check the back of the tree on the right side.

After revealing the pipe behind the tree with Flurrie, check behind said pipe.

Creepy Steeple

Behind the front gate to the left

Roll to the space in the back wall as you enter the Steeple. Roll towards the middle-back.

In the area with the movable stairs, ground pound the bottom right section of the floor

Before you find the room with the bird, roll all the way to the right.

In the room with the bird, butt stomp the lower right section of the floor to flip a tile

Chapter 5 Star Pieces

Keyhaul Key

At the dock, ground pound a tile near the right side exit.

The water in the foreground of Pa-Patch

Behind the rock of the right side exit of the camp area

Right after existing the camp area, hit the first clump of leaves

Behind the large vine branch that’s on the ground near the hidden coin box/Shine Sprite

Search the foreground of the pool around the skull gate entrance

Pirate’s Grotto

In the waterfall room, beside the bulky Bomb, butt stop and flip a tile near the entrance

In the storage room, ride the elevator to the top of the barrels. Fall inside the one most in the foreground.

Become a boat at the Rogueport Dock and sail to the left. A small alcove here has a chest and star piece.

Excess Express

In room 004, butt stop the floor near the seats

In room 008, search the bedside table.

In the engine room, the tile right in front of the engine

Return the Galley Pot to the chef

Return the waitress’s earnings

Riverside Station

2F, all the way to the right side behind the rightmost gear

Rogueport Underground. Using super jump, jump to the right side of the long pipe that leads to another warp pipe to the background. Enter the house.

Butt stomp to the left of the warp pipe

Search shrub in first area following the warp pipe

Search behind the brick wall (near a the HP Plus P Badge)

The Moon

Butt stomp the broken rock when you see X-Naut Fortress/the domed city way in the background, but only after you've revealed the pipe to the Fortress.

Before X-Naut Fortress, you will be transported back to the Rogueport Underground, where you can grab any Star Pieces you didn’t get the first time. These are covered in the Backtracking Star Pieces section

X-Naut Fortress

Spring jump to air duct (in the one vent you see open) and head to the far left

Use the cog and control crane to grab the star piece
