The Long Night

Approximately 8,000 years ago, an unnatural cold swept Westeros and the Long Night set in. The sun did not seem to rise for a generation.?After one winter lasting an extremely long time and cold settled across Westeros, creatures known as the White Walkers, or the Others, descended from the northern reaches of the continent.?They attacked with ferocity, forcing the Children and the First Men into the South, where the two peoples finally rallied for the Battle for the Dawn and drove their enemies back north,?into the Lands of Always Winter.?The legacy of this time was the founding of the Sworn Brothers of the Night’s Watch and the raising of the mighty Wall. It may have also been the period of the founding of House Stark.
