Game Basics
Welcome to the World of Pokémon GS. If you've played Pokémon Yellow, Red or Blue before, you should be ready to jump right into the game and explore at your heart's content -- but you may also want to take a few minutes and read this section. Perhaps you will find some helpful information you didn't know about.
In many ways, Pokemon Gold and Silver play identically to Pokemon Yellow, Red and Blue and the strategies for one are pretty much the same for the other. Some of the new features are handy but self-explanatory. For instance, the item pack is now much larger and easier to use during play. The Pokedex and PC systems are likewise streamlined, and you have a new toy called a PokeGear that can have several handy features including a map, phone and radio. These features and others are described in the game’s instructions, and are very easy to use. There are some other important differences, however, that merit additional explanation.
We have highlighted the most important new additions to the Pokémon universe with this symbol. So if you don't have enough patience or time to read everything here (or you already know everything there is to know about Blue/Red and Yellow).
