Walter White
Walter White is the main protagonist and anti-hero of Breaking Bad. He is diagnosed with advanced stage, inoperable, lung cancer after collapsing in the car wash. With chemotherapy he is told he will live another "couple of years". This diagnosis changes Walt profoundly and brings substantial consequences for him and his family. Walt promptly quits his job at the Albuquerque Car Wash, and verbally abuses his boss Bogdan. Having seen a news report of a methanphetamine lab bust in the company of his DEA Agent brother-in-law Hank Schrader, Walt requests a ride-along thus beginning his involvment with the New Mexico meth industry. He reestablishes contact with his former student turned meth cook, Jesse Pinkman; the two purchase a recreational vehicle and begin cooking their own brand of meth.
Owing to Walt's knowledge of chemistry the meth they produce is 98% chemically pure and subsequently incredibly popular.
Walter works as a high school chemistry teacher prior too and during Breaking Bad, throughout which he uses his advanced knowledge of chemical processes to solve problems as well as cook meth. For example, he manufactures the poison ricin, and creates a form of plastic explosive in his home kitchen.
