A new generation of Apple Watch is heading straight for your wrist. At the recent iPhone 16 event, Apple also announced that the new Apple Watch Series 10 is set to release September 20, with preorders live right now (see it at Amazon). It has a handful of new features, including sleep apnea detection. There’s also a slight refresh of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 that brings some new ideas to the table. Let’s take a look at what’s new.
Apple Watch Series 10
The newest model of Apple Watch is the Series 10, and it comes with a few improvements over previous generations of the popular smartwatch. It’s thinner, and it has a slightly bigger display (starting at 42mm, vs. 41mm in the Series 9). It has a wide-angle OLED display, which means it looks clearer and brighter when viewed at an angle, something that happens pretty often for watch wearers. It also comes in a new glossy jet-black aluminum case that looks quite rad (in addition to silver and rose gold options). There are also three polished titanium case options to choose from, if those hold more appeal.
In terms of software, the Series 10 goes a bit deeper into health tracking, with detection of potential sleep apnea issues if applicable. (This feature will also come to Apple Watch Series 9 and, later, to Apple Watch Ultra 2).

Here’s some good news for outdoorsy types: the rugged Apple Watch Ultra 2 got a new color. It’s the same watch on the inside, but the outside features a fetching black titanium case.

Honestly, the Apple Watch Series 10 improvements over recent previous-gen models are relatively small. If you don’t mind missing out on a millimeter of improvement here and there, you can find previous-gen Apple Watches on sale.
