HBO has officially announced the lead actors for its Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on George R.R. Martin's Dunk and Egg novels, takes place a century prior to the events of Game of Thrones. It follows an odd couple pairing of a young na?ve-yet-courageous knight named Ser Duncan The Tall and his tiny squire Egg as they travel across Westeros. Actor Peter Claffey, a former Connacht Rugby player turned actor known for his role in Apple TV's Bad Sisters, will play Duncan. Dexter Sol Ansell, who played the young Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, will play Egg.
Here's an official summary of A Knight of the Seven Kingdom's plot:
Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was first announced back in 2021.The series is being written and executive produced by creator George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker alongside Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw. Season 1 of the show — which is targeting a six-episode run — will adapt Martin's first book in the Dunk and Egg trilogy novels, The Hedge Knight.
Last year, HBO expressed interest in making Knights of the Seven Kingdoms a three season show, effectively adapting Martin's other books The Sworn Sword and Mystery Knight in corrosponding seasons. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms arrives late 2025 on HBO Max.
