Red Barrels said that while the first game was made to be open for the addition of DLC, "that was not the case for Outlast 2." The team considered many options, but none of them "felt appropriate" as DLC for Outlast 2. Because of this, the studio is working on a completely new project that isn't a sequel to Outlast 1 or 2, but rather "a distinct experience set in the Outlast universe."
