As with Off Your Boss, No Rest for the Wicked is basically a puzzle game set in the backdrop of a disgruntled neighbor/employee looking to play pranks on their neighbor/boss while recording them for a television show. Pranks can be anything from sawing legs off of chairs and easels to pooling water near an electrical short to electrocute your nemesis. The more pranks you pull, the happier your reality show audience is. Figuring out how to pull the pranks and the order to pull them in for maximum effect is the challenge. While there are some very familiar pranks many of them are new.
But still, as with Off Your Boss, the only real challenge provided by this game is in the pixel hunting for objects that can be picked up and used in pranks. Otherwise Pranksterz basically holds your hand. The target of your nefarious pranks once again wanders from area to area doing the same tasks over and over. A thought bubble pops up showing what he's going to do next, which allows you to get out of his way (which is good considering he'll kick your ass if you're in his line of sight). Thankfully they've fixed the camera a bit from Off Your Boss so it doesn't center on the player character every time he moves to a new area. This allows you to give longer move orders without having to worry about the aggravation of the camera automatically moving every few seconds. Unfortunately, giving longer move orders could result in sad consequences. The path finding doesn't have a toggle that says "if bad guy is along route A to destination, take route B instead" which means your dumb character will often run straight into the enemy if you're not paying close attention. Even better, multiple bugs will have your character running strange routes through what should be impassable objects. So sadly, there's a good bit of micromanagement needed to move around these very small environments.
While the environments are definitely small, at least there's a little bit of variety this time. Each of the environment templates will be re-used, but instead of being stuck in one building, you'll be outside the front of a lodge, in back of a lodge, down by a beach, and down by a pond. Sure, it's not a lot, but it's something. Likewise, the visuals are better than they were in Off Your Boss. Characters remain the same, but environments are crisper thanks to resolution options that reach up to 1600x1200 (still no widescreen).
While the visuals are a bit better, this new version of Pranksterz is still suffering from a wide array of presentation issues and bugs. There is still little to no explanation of why your character hates your boss/neighbor so much. It's also confusing whether this guy you hate is your neighbor or boss or both. Is "neighbor" just a leftover from Neighbors from Hell? It would also probably help if there weren't as many translation errors as I've seen in any game in 10 years. Not only is the English bad in general, but it's just plain missing in others. Cyrillic often pops up in descriptions of objects along with what's obviously placeholder text. Finally add on the fact that I couldn't get sound to work at all after re-installing and re-downloading the game several times, checking all of my sound equipment, checking Windows to make sure it wasn't accidentally muted, and looking for support (of which there is none that I could find), I gave up and played without sound. Considering the sound quality of the first game, it's probably not that big a loss, but that's a pretty big freakin' bug.
