Essential Tips and Tricks for Getting Started in V Rising
- Don't sleep on Journal Quests, as their completion is essential to unlocking vital mechanics and features such as castles, abilities, and key building structures that you'll need to progress in V Rising.
- The Castle Heart is the most important structure in your domain and is responsible for keeping your production machinery working and protecting your hard-earned loot from rival vampire clans and other players. As long as you keep your Castle Heart supplied with blood essence, it will continue to power your castle and keep it from decaying.
- However, should your Castle Heart run out of blood essence, it will begin to decay and become vulnerable to being destroyed and looted by other players, potentially leaving you nothing to come back to. It is also important to remember that destroying your Castle Heart will cause your entire castle to crumble to the ground.
- Want to build an even bigger castle or expand your list of loyal servants? Upgrade your Castle Heart to increase both your castle and servant capacity. The initial upgrade will set you back 12 Copper Ingots and 12 Leather.
- During the early game, you'll require the likes of Leather and Whetstones in order to craft core Refinement structures such as the Grinder, as well as Paper and Books, which can be used on the Research Desk to discover new technology. You'll find that these items can initially be obtained when killing humanoids and raiding various settlements, bandit camps, and strongholds across Vardoran. Just note, you'll eventually unlock structures such as the Paper Press much later in the game, which will allow you to craft paper, an item that is typically hard to find in bulk.
- Environment objects such as crates and barrels can be found when raiding settlements such as Bandit Camps and Farms. When destroying these items, there's a chance you'll earn planks and other resources such as Copper Ore, Clay, Research Books, Stone Dust, and even more.
- Struggling to gather enough resources? Seek out Workers in order to feed on their blood, as you'll have the chance to yield upwards of 10% to 30% more resources with this Blood Type. In addition, you'll also gain an increase in your damage against resource objects, mount gallop speed when riding horses, and a very small chance to instantly destroy a resource node and trigger a burst of speed.
- Gathered too many items and need to clear some space in your inventory? Drop items by simply dragging them out of your inventory and they will fall to the ground.
- Never miss rare loot again, as important items are highlighted by gold loot beams, compared to the common blue beam that appears for standard resources and materials.
- If you're just starting out and have only constructed a base with wooden walls, consider crafting a Mist Brazier to generate a dense mist that can block out the sun in small areas. The brazier also works a treat for those who have constructed parts of their base outside the confines of reinforced walls. Unfortunately, though, the Mist Brazier isn't cheap to run as it requires a constant supply of bones in order for it to continue blocking out the sun.
- If running the Mist Brazier happens to be a little too costly for your liking, consider building your initial castle around heavy vegetation as the shadows cast from these shrubs and trees can make working around your early base much easier during the daylight hours.
- Blood is essential in V Rising, so never let it fully run out, or else you'll take damage until it is refilled. If you're completely out of blood and you don't refill it in time, your health will remain at one until you feed on unsuspecting humanoids and creatures or consume items such as Tainted Hearts, which will provide a small about of Blood. These items are important to always keep on you while traveling, as they can often be the difference between life and death.
- As you progress in the game and unlock new items to craft, you'll notice that your resources will quickly begin to disappear as production costs begin to soar, so get a head start by gathering as many resources as possible early on. As we suggest in our Things V Rising Doesn't Tell You guide, getting in the habit of continually placing your resources and items in storage containers before setting out to explore Vardoran will end up saving you plenty of time in the long run. Not only do you run the risk of losing your items when succumbing to enemies but depending on the server type you're playing on, other players can potentially steal your items if you're not careful.
- Struggling with a messy inventory or storage container? Press the Sort button when accessing the storage inventories to instantly sort the items into categories. While it won't be perfect, it's a quick way to overcome the chaos of managing inventories.

- When accessing storage containers, you can also select Compulsively Count to transfer items from your inventory if the same type of item exists in the container. This is very handy when trying to keep storage containers with specific resources inside, neat and tidy.
- Refinement structures are essential machinery that help turn raw materials into refined items such as Stone Bricks. However, as you'll quickly notice, many of these machines take quite some time to refine or produce the materials, which can make the waiting process quite lengthy, especially when refining hundreds of raw materials such as lumber, stone, ores, and more. To help speed things up, you can slightly decrease the time it takes to craft these refined materials by ensuring that structures are inside a confined castle room. A confined castle room can only be determined once reinforced walls have been constructed.
- Reducing the cost of refining raw materials is also possible by simply ensuring the Refinement has the required matching flooring -- you'll need dedicated rooms in order for this boost to take effect. To find the required flooring type for each machine, open the structure menu and hover over the boost information that's available in the top right. As an example, the Grinder will require the Workshop Floor. While a 25% reduction may not seem like much, in the long run, the sheer amount of raw materials you'll save will be quite significant.
- Customize your character's appearance by constructing a mirror. While you won't be able to change your name, the mirror will allow you to customize your skin color, hair color, eye color, accessories, and more.
- Almost all forms that allow you to transform into another creature have unique abilities that you can use to your advantage, so don't forget to make use of them.
- Create a Private Game to enable and adjust over 60 advanced settings that can drastically change your gameplay in V Rising. Whether you're looking to make things more challenging or simply want to remove the grinding aspect by unlocking free resources and items, there's a little something for everyone.
- If changing settings is too permanent for you, consider giving yourself resources and items with console commands. Just be warned, you'll need Admin Authority in order to activate them, which can be given through console commands should you have the necessary permissions. Exploration Tips and Tricks
- In need of a particular resource or material and unsure of how to find it? Open your world map and hover over the highlighted areas to find area descriptions and important loot information.

- If you happen to get caught out during the day, don't panic and simply make your way back to your Castle by traveling between shadows cast on the ground. As the day-night cycle is dynamic, you'll need to be wary of the ever-changing shadows, so make sure to utilize your travel abilities to make those dashes between shadows quicker and ultimately much safer.
- Unlocking different Vampire Powers such as the Bear Form and Wolf Form can increase your resistance to certain elements and even increase your movement speed. This can make both traveling easier but also safer during the daylight. You can unlock Vampire Powers by simply defeating V Blood carriers that are found all over Vardoran.
- In addition to destroying items around your environment, keep your eyes peeled for chests and containers. In most situations, these chests can be found inside tents and houses and may just contain handy resources such as Paper, Animal Hides, Books, and more!
- Fancy a race? Gather your best riders and head over to the Race Track found in the western area of the Dunley Farmlands. The track is complete with several obstacles such as barrels and fences, so don't expect an easy race!
- Whilst using Dominating Presence to charmed unsuspecting humans, you may run into the issue of transporting them back to your castle in a timely manner, along with the added stress of having to avoid the dangers that lurk on the roads. If you have charmed humans far from your castle, attempt to find a horse. These four-legged friends will allow you to travel back to your base quickly and don't worry about losing your charmed humans as they'll speed up their standard walking speed to match your pace.
- When defeating the Alpha Wolf, you'll unlock the ability to transform into a Wolf. Not only is the Wolf a fantastic way to quickly travel the paths of Vardoran but it's also good for avoiding conflict with Wolf Packs that roam the forests as they will no longer attack you.
- Horses need basic care in order to survive, so make sure to deposit Water-filled Canteens into their inventory by pressing Tab when nearing them to avoid them succumbing to dehydration.
- Surprisingly, horses are not the same! When selecting a horse, be sure to check their inventory to find their Max Speed, Acceleration, and Rotation Speed. While the stats for each individual horse won't always be significantly different, you may find that a slightly better handling horse could be the difference between a swift getaway or untimely death when trying to evade combat.
- Lastly, Horses that you have stolen do not need to be locked up as they will not roam. So long as the horse has water and is not stolen by another player, it will remain in the same location as where you left it.
Combat Tips and Tricks
- Enemies will eventually respawn after killing them, so don't stick around too long after you have cleared areas otherwise you may need to fight your way out.

- Never engage in an unwanted fight again by unlocking Blood Hunger, a Vampire Power that is unlocked after defeating Tristan the Vampire Hunter. This ability allows you to instantly recognize the blood type and blood quality of nearby units.
- Before taking on V Bloods and powerful enemies that lurk in the lands of Vardoran, it is highly recommended that you craft helpful consumables such as the Vermin Salve, as it recovers 2.5% of your maximum health every 1.5 seconds for its entire 15-second duration. The Blood Rose Potion is also a good health-restoring alternative if you're looking for something stronger.
- Always ensure your Blood Pool is filled, even if the Blood Quality happens to be quite low. While your character not only relies on the Blood Pool to stay alive, you can also use it as a passive method to refill your health when you're running low on potions by using the Blood Mend Vampire Power, which consumes 0.2 liters of blood per second to recover 4% of your maximum health. This power is incredibly helpful for restoring your health between battles.
- Archers aren't the smartest enemies that you'll face as they often take quite some time to load up their attacks before firing. This will leave you with plenty of time to not only avoid their attacks with a travel ability but also to circle around to their back where you'll have time to unload several of your own attacks before they can load up and fire their next attack.
- Avoid running too far away from V Blood carriers and enemies as once they leave your screen, their health will be replenished to full. However, do note that while certain enemies and V Blood carriers will follow you for a certain distance, they will eventually return to their main roaming area, which will also see them returning to full health.
- You can bait Golems into using their stomp attack -- whether you have the gear level to take them down or not -- by getting in close-range and using your travel ability to quickly escape. If you happen to get the Golem to perform this attack when near trees and other resources such as stone, simply watch as they come crumbling to the ground, ready to collect.
- The Crossbow is an essential weapon that can significantly change the way you approach combat situations. Unfortunately, you won't have access to the Crossbow recipe straight away, as you'll need to unlock it by defeating one of the first V Blood bosses you can face, Rufus the Foreman. Not only will Rufus unlock the Woodworking bench, but he will also provide recipes for decorative planks, painting frames, and the fishing rod, which is an activity that you'll eventually need to partake in to gather important late-game materials such as Fish Oil -- a resource that isn't easily farmed.
See our detailed guide on How to Fish in V Rising for more.
- Unlike when feeding on normal enemies, you'll be invincible to all damage when extracting blood from a V Blood Boss. After successfully extracting their blood, a large blast will occur and all surrounding enemies will be instantly defeated.

- Bandit Trapper Camps are often filled with essential resources such as Leather, Animal Hides, Coarse Threads, and Paper but when first starting out, taking out these heavily armed camps won't be an easy feat. However, there is a way that you can take out some enemies without launching a single attack upon them. In order to passively take out enemies with little effort, look for cages filled with animals such as Wolves and Bears. While you'll need to be quick, you can destroy the gates of these cages to cause the animals to be unleashed upon the camp, temporarily taking the focus off of you as the enemies attempt to deal with the wild animals that are now causing havoc across the camp.
