Skull Hammer

The traditional, small magical hammer is history. Say hello to the newly improved Skull Hammer, a huge weapon that you can use to really smack enemies around, smash statues and rocks, and hammer down heavy switches and obstacles. The whole cartoon angle fits the look and ridiculous size of the new hammer perfectly. Add to that satisfying "slam!" sound effects and you've got one of the coolest tools to use in the game.

• Combat: The Hammer isn't quite as fast as your sword, but it causes much more damage. Try it against enemies like Magtails or any of the -oblins and you will notice the difference. The most satisfying foes to use the Skull Hammer on are the annoying little Miniblins. Perform a standard slam move (push forward or stand still and press A) to flatten a Miniblin into a pancake. Move left or right and hit A to perform a sideways "batting" swipe to make the Miniblin fly through the air.
• Stun: Certain enemies, such as ChuChus, can be stunned by pounding the ground. This is helpful if you don't want to switch to the Boomerang or Grappling Hook just for a few electric foes.
• Flatten Barriers: When you return to the Forsaken Fortress, many of the paths that were once open are blocked by metal barriers wrapped in barbed wire. Luckily, the Skull Hammer can smash these barriers into the ground with a single forward pound move.
• Trigger Switches: Use the Skull Hammer to activate switches that are too heavy to be triggered by Link's weight.
