Requirements: Pass Orca's challenge after the bird and pirate ship cutscene.
The sword, which you receive from Orca, is once again Link's primary weapon. Using the A and B buttons in conjunction with the analog stick and lock-on feature, Link can pull off a large variety of moves, including horizontal slashes, stabs, and a leaping cleave attack. Like in the past games, pressing and holding B lets players unleash a spin attack. A later upgrade enables a continuous spin attack that turns Link into a sword-wielding tornado.

- Cutting: Link can use the sword to cut grass, flowers, bushes, and small trees, which all yield power-ups and Rupees. The latter sometimes block his path, so using the Hero's?Sword is the only way to get through. The sword can also be used to cut ropes that hold small bridges or platforms in place and for triggering crystal switches.
- Combat: Attacks vary based on which button you push (A or B), whether you're locked on or running free, as well as the direction you press on the analog stick. Link can also perform sidestep and backflip maneuvers (locked-on, A) while he's using the sword. When targeting an enemy, the A button will flash when the opponent is about to attack (the controller will also rumble and you will hear a chime). If you press A quickly, Link will perform a special parry move and either roll around the opponent to attack from the back or leap over the attacker and perform a slash move in the air. Note that you cannot crawl with the sword drawn. You have to first put the sword away by standing still and pressing A.
