Forest Haven
Forest Haven
To get to the Forest Island, use your Wind Waker?to change the wind direction to south (S) (play up, left, right). But before you can sail away in peace, you will first have to talk to a magical fish who will gladly help you fill in the blanks on your map -- for a certain price, of course. That price is fish food. Just drop some in the water when you see the fish near and he'll help you figure out where you are.
Get the letter from the mailbox. It's from the mother of the young man you helped with the letter sorting and contains a Piece of Heart.
Continue up the path, but watch out for Boko Baba plants. These nasty carnivorous plants can easily be defeated with your sword, but don't get close to them when you're not planning to attack as they will bite you. While they may drop one if you defeat them with your sword as well, you can always get a magical seed from them when you use the Grappling Hook?first. Make your way up to the plateau at the top of the waterfalls and use your Grappling Hook to cross the gap. Land on top of the small island, turn to the right and deflect the Octoroc shots with your shield back at the rock-spitting squid. Hop across to the next little island and defeat another Baba then continue to the right, climb up and jump the gap.
When you hop to the next platform, an Octoroc will attack from afar. Again use your shield to immediately deflect the shot back at the squid, cut the bush to replenish your health, and finally use the Hook to swing yourself across to the upper portion of the river. The current there is weak, so you won't be swept away -- and you can enter the cave to find out how this island got its name.
Follow the brook upstream, climbing the small waterfalls, until you arrive at a floating leaf. It's now time to help out the Deku Tree. Try to climb on top and a cutscene will reveal that the large tree in front of you has a nasty and quite embarrassing problem. Run forward and knock into the tree with your roll move to make the ChuChu slimes drop. You have to defeat all of them to complete your task, so swing your sword (and stun them with your Grappling Hook, if necessary). Once they're all gone, watch the cutscene, then go over to the flower bud shown below.
Jump into the flower, then adjust your direction by pushing the stick right or left. You want to directly face the next flower, then push forward when you get catapulted into the air to jump from flower to flower. Follow the stems up onto a branch, switch to your Grappling Hook and swing yourself to the next bud. Don't rush it. If you didn't quite align yourself correctly, just let go of the stick and you'll just fly straight up into the air and you can try again. Go all the way up and you'll get the Deku Leaf.
Use the Deku Leaf to float down to the plateau with the grass arrow. Cut the grass if you are in need of magic.
Exit the cave and you'll find yourself on a windy cliff. Change the wind direction (the song is: up, left, right) to south-west (lower left), then leap off and float over to the small island using the Deku Leaf. Once you're there, replenish your energy and change the wind direction again, this time to the north-west (upper left). Wait for the tornado that circles around the island to be just to your right, then leap off to the north-west and use the twister to float higher into the air. The added height will allow you to fly across to the tree dungeon and bypass the airborne enemies. Once landed, use your Grappling Hook to steal feathers from the incoming foes. You can defeat them by hitting them with a gust of wind from your Deku Leaf, but you might as well enter the dungeon at this point.
