Bombs

A mainstay of the Zelda franchise, Bombs are necessary for Link to progress to areas blocked by rocks or brittle walls. Wondering where to find the Bombs in Wind Waker? Check the Windfall Island: Pirate Ship section of the walkthrough on how to acquire them.

• Blowing up obstacles: Equip a Bomb and press the button in question and the Bomb's fuse will be lit. It will take a few seconds for the Bomb to detonate. As you get closer to detonation, the Bomb will flash red faster. Link can throw Bombs with A or carefully place them on the ground with R. Obstacles that can be blown up include large rocks, weak walls, wooden crates and barriers, as well as grass and bushes. In addition to picking them up from Bomb Flowers or from Link's Bomb Bag, Bombs can be set off by hitting them with your sword or other weapons, or by throwing rocks at them. Bomb explosions also trigger crystal switches.
  A special note on blowing up enemy gun turrets. While destroying them with your ship's cannon isn't too tough, there's an easier way to blow up the ones on top of lookout towers. Simply climp on top of an outpost platform, zoom out the camera, and lay Bombs on top of the platform right above the cannons. The explosion will instantly destroy the cannons below.
• Combat: Bombs are invaluable for getting rid of pesky enemies. For example, plants that retract into a shell when you get closer are easily taken out with bombs, as are the stationary Beamos turrets that shoot laser beams at you when you get too close. The only danger with bombs is that the explosion will harm you as well if you don't get out of the way quickly.
• On the Boat: Use the Bombs while on the boat and you gain access to a powerful cannon. This explosive weapon fires Bomb shells into any direction which are useful for blowing open blocked passages, sinking enemy ships, blowing up gun turrets, or fending off creatures.
