B-7: Outset Island
Outset Island
Items: Green Tunic, Telescope, Hero's Sword, Bait Bag, Hero's Shield, Fairy Ugrade (wallet), Elixir Soup, Nayru's Pearl, Piece of Heart (3), Hero's Charm (Wii U location only), Hand-Me-Down Tingle Tuner (GameCube only), Triforce Shard 6 (Wii U), Triforce Chart 6 (GameCube)
Requirements: Various (read below)
Outset Island is where the whole adventure begins, but that doesn't mean that you've necessarily done everything there is to do if you're just returning for the second or third time. If you're just starting to play Wind Waker and you're looking for some help, refer to the walkthrough page here.
Pig Business
Early on in the adventure, talk to the fat lady at the pig pen, then go out pig hunting. To catch a pig, sneak up on them on all fours (hold R), then grab them with A when you're close. There are three pigs, a spotted one (close to the large house in the west), a black one (near Orca's and Sturgeon's house), and a pink one (close to your house), but they tend to move around. You will get a Red Rupee?for each pig.
Return to this pig pen later on in the adventure to find one of the pigs all grown up. If you have the Power Bracelet, you can lift the pig up and carry it to the muddy spots all over the island. Throw some all purpose bait onto these spots and the pig will dig and unearth Rupees and other items. Carry the pig across the bridge and put bait onto the left mud spot at the foot of the grassy area (picture above, right). There's a Piece of Heart hidden here.
The Way of the Sword
Visit Orca, the old man who gave you the Hero's Sword in the very beginning, and take him on in a sword fight challenge. Don't forget to block! If you get hit three times, the challenge is over. If you pass 100, you'll get 50 Rupees, whereas 300 hits net you a 100 Rupee piece. The true reward comes at 500, however: a Piece of Heart. And if you're insane, try to hit him 999 times for 200 Rupees.
But you can also learn a new technique from Orca, and it's far less time-consuming. Simply give Orca 10 Knight's Crests (the kind you can steal from Darknut knights once their armor is off). In return, Orca will teach you the Hurricane Spin, which is a great move against large numbers of enemies (or grass blades).
Rupees Galore
Whether you use a seagull to grab them or collect them all yourself, there are quite a few hidden Rupees in your hometown. Have you found these yet:
- Crawl underneath your house and enter a hidden basement to find a 100 Rupee piece.
- Look for a Yellow (10) Rupee behind some small trees close to your house.
- Climb up the steps on the right of the well and sidle along the wall to get to a pot with Rupees.
- Climb up the fence surrounding the pig pen and get up on the roof, from where you have access to a small room with pots containing more Rupees.
- Jump on the rocks next to the bridge to get a Yellow Rupee.
- Go into the house at the top of the hill to the west and crawl underneath the bed (look for the green rupee). There's an opening in the wall. Crawl through and you'll get to a hidden chest with a Red Rupee.
- Crawl underneath the same house for some more Rupees.
- Look on top of Aryll's watchtower.
- You know the girl who carries the pot on her head? This won't get you much cash, but it's funny that the developers included this: use your Boomerang?to break the pot and see what happens.
Beedle's Shop
Visit the floating trader Beedle on the small boat that travels in circles around the island. The first time you meet him, you can buy the Bait Bag. Later on, you're your one-stop supplier for All-Purpose Bait and Hyoi Pears. You should always have a good number of both on you.
Grandma's Elixir Soup
If you've returned to Outset on your quest to find the three pearls, don't forget to visit your sick grandma and cure her. To do so, either bring a fairy with you or simply climb the mountain path and enter the fairy well to catch a small fairy in your Bottle.
Go back to grandma, equip the Bottle, lock on and use the fairy. She will be cured on the spot and you will receive some of her healing Elixir Soup in return. This potion not only gives you two doses in one bottle, you cause twice the amount of damage when your heart power is full -- and it's complete free and "all-you-can-eat". Just come back to your grandma with an Empty Bottle and you'll get more.
Fairy Well
There is a hidden fairy well on top of the Outset mountain. Climb up the winding path to the top of the mountain, change the direction of the wind to the west, then hop off the highest point (the rock platform) and float across to the other side. Continue through the forest until you get to a large rock. Blow it up with a Bomb?and drop into the hole.
You have discovered the local Great Fairy Well. Step forward to receive an upgrade: the Large Wallet. Catch small fairies in your bottle(s) and head back to your grandma's house if you haven't healed her yet. If you want to try out your new wallet and get some extra cash, float down to the roof of the large house at the foot of the hill and enter through the open window.
Knuckle's Quest (GameCube Only)
If you've got a GBA connected, you get to meet Tingle's brother, Knuckle. Just walk around for a while and he'll contact you with a scavenger hunt challenge. You have to find the following places:
- Outdoor bath: Near your grandma's house, close to the rock wall.
- The ladder that nobody uses: It's the small ladder leading into the water at the foot of Aryll's watchtower.
- The largest rock at the top of the mountain: Near the broken bridge. Not the rock you jump off from, but the one closer to the cliff.
- Leap of faith below the rope bridge: Hang from the ledge where once the rope bridge began. Drop down to the rock below (not the tall rock pillar, the lower area between the pillar and the cliff).
As a reward, you will get the Hand-Me-Down Tingle Tuner. You won't see it on your item screen in the GameCube game -- only on the GBA. Use it to call up Knuckle anytime and buy item or potion refills. It's handy when you run out of magic energy or Bombs.
Meet Jabun
If you're here on your quest to find another Pearl, simply sail to the back side of the island. You will get sucked into a maelstrom.
Equip the Bombs while you're on the boat and fire away at the large gate. You have a better chance at hitting when you're closer, so don't waste your ammo. There are three pieces that you need to blast in order to make the whirlpool stop. Target the top one first (shooting the lower ones doesn't do anything if you haven't taken out the top piece). As soon as it's over, you will enter the cave and meet Lord Jabun.
Instead of a dungeon, you will receive Nayru's Pearl, the third artifact you need on your quest to break Ganon's curse.
The Savage Labyrinth
Walk up the mountain path and stand on the rock, as shown below. Change the wind direction to the west.
Use the Deku Leaf?to float to the remote cliff with the large stone head. Lift it with the help of your Power Bracelet and drop it to reveal a hidden hole. Enter the battle dungeon, known as the Savage Labyrinth. The idea is to always defeat all enemies on a floor, then drop into the hole and go to the next one. After each 10 battle floors, you will come to an exit level. Don't go out. Instead, drop into the hole again.
After 30 battle floors, you will get to a room with an elephant statue and a wind symbol. Play the Wind's Requiem to make a treasure chest appear. The chest contains Triforce Chart 6 in the GameCube version and Triforce Shard 6 in the Wii U version.?
Before you leave, stand in one of the light beams next to the treasure chest (not the central one with the sparkles, that's the exit beam) and reflect a light at the statue. There is a hole underneath the statue that leads into a deeper dungeon.
The nether regions of this dungeon contain tougher foes, like ReDeads and Blue Skulls, and the like. It's a great way to make lots of money, so come here whenever you're low on cash. Keep on fighting!
The ultimate reward happens after the room with the four Dark Knuts. When you get to the 50th floor, you will receive the Hero's Charm in the Wii U version. In the GameCube version, the Charm is found on Windfall Island instead and the reward here is a Piece of Heart.
