How to Get an Unbreakable Master Sword Glitch
This duplication glitch was patched out by Nintendo with TotK version 1.1.2.
There have been several different glitches and cheats found for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and one of them can let you get an unbreakable Master Sword very early into the game. This page contains information on how to obtain this glitched Master Sword, and the steps you need to take to make it work.
Warning, as this is a glitch, you should be prepared to deal with some risks down the road. You’ll be messing with your game save files, but because there are a generous amount of auto saves you should be safe -- just be sure not to move to far away while doing this glitch to limit auto-saving.

How to Get the Master Sword From the Prologue
This glitch will involve a duplication glitch that crosses over between save files, allowing to to grab an additional weapon during the game's prologue and force access to your inventory, allowing you to dupe the unbreakable Master Sword from the prologue back to your other save file. To do so, see the steps below:
- 1. - First, you’ll need to have reached the In-Isa Shrine which teaches you how to use the fuse ability. It’s the shrine at the end of the large lake in the southwest of the Great Sky Island. Note that this doesn't have to be on a new save file - you can activate this glitch at any time by simply fast-traveling back to the Shrine.
- 2. - Once you enter the shrine, the game will create an auto-save. Quit the game and completely back out to the main menu.
- 3. - Go to Start New Game, and play through the intro until you get to the part where Zelda heads down a broken down stairway and overlooks a chasm where Mummy Ganondrof is being held in the distance. Do not talk to her and do not proceed with the cutscene!
- 4. - Instead, walk back up to the middle of this stairway where you see a broken part of the hallway and a rock with a small black mark on the right. It’s near the middle of the stairway. Save your game here.
- 5. - Now, load your auto save back by the In-Isa Shrine. Continue into the shrine and break through the wall by fusing a boulder to a weapon.
- 6. - Use the Ultrahand Ability to move the other boulder into the water on the path to the right, and align it against the seam in the wall as best you can.
- 7 - Jump on top of the boulder and get as close to the wall as you can, with your feet a little bit in the air. This may take a bit of repositioning to get right.
This is where the weapon dupication glitch will happen. To do so, follow these setps:
- 8. - Press Plus, drop your equipped weapon (the one highlighted in blue). Equip any other weapon, then press Plus twice (extremely fast!).
- 9. - Drop your equipped weapon again.
- 10. - Without exiting the menu, load the save from the Prologue at the start of the game.
At this point you’ll want to load up your save that starts at the beginning of the game near the broken down hallway. If you’ve been successful, pick up the weapon you just teleported to this area (it may have slid down to the bottom of the stairs). It will break the game a bit, but you should now have access to your weapon inventory at the beginning of the game by pressing Plus, something you couldn't normally access otherwise, and you can now select the Master Sword in your inventory.
- 11. - Repeat the Weapon Duplication Glitch with the Master Sword:
Press Plus, drop your equipped Master Sword. Equip the other weapon you brought from the Ina-Isa Shrine. Press Plus Twice Very Fast! Drop your other weapon. Without exiting the menu, load the auto save of entering the Ina-Isa Shrine for the first time.
- 12. - Make your way through the In-Isa Shrine once more by destroying the rock walls, and return to the point where you placed the boulder before on the side passage in the shallow water.
If done correclty, your Master Sword Should be there on the ground with text that reads MsgNotFound. Despite the odd name, it will function exactly as the Master Sword does (with a base 30 damage and 60 when in the presence of certain bosses or gloom-infused enemies). However, unlike the Master Sword you get by normal means, this one has unlimited durability and can never break!
