How to Unlock the Autobuild Ability Early
After completing the Great Sky Island, Link will have all but one of his abilities, with the final one being hidden away in a later Main Quest - A Mystery in the The Depths. However, you can find the ability on your own much sooner if you know where to go. This page contains info on how to head right to the The Great Abandoned Central Mine in the Depths.
Locating the Great Abandoned Central Mine
There are two main ways to locate the large Great Abandoned Central Mine, found deep within the Depths under Hyrule, and either is a viable strategy depending on how much you want to explore.
The first method is also the one given to you in the main quest, which will only appear for you after you have completed at least one Temple in the Regional Phenomena questline. Josha will ask you to follow the trail of large statues you took a picture of in Camera Work in the Depths, the first of which is located west of the Hyrule Field Chasm south of Lookout Landing.
By following the line of statues (pictured above), you can follow the trail straight to the Abandoned Mine.
The other method is much more simple, bypassing the trail by knowing exactly where the Central Mine is located. By swapping between the Depths and Surface Map, you'll find that the mine happens to be located directly under the old Temple of Time on the Great Plateau.
Because of this, and because there are four chasms that have opened up where the Sheikah Shrines used to be in Breath of the Wild, you can bypass most of the darkened areas of the Depths by going directly to the Great Plateau.
There are two mostly straightforward ways to reach the plateau:
- You can use the nearby Skyview Tower to catapult up to the Sky Islands and follow them south until you are above the plateau and glide down.
- You can also search the north walls of the plateau to find a pile of rubble to destroy that will drain a lake in the plateau, and allow you to simply climb the slope right up by one of the chasms.
Each of the four chasms is located fairly close to the Abandoned Mine, and usually have a few Zonai Devices to help reach the well-lit area in the distance easily.
Unlocking the Autobuild Ability
Depending on where you enter the large structure, you'll need to make your way to the top platform to find a large entrance arch and to a platform with a few broken Zonai Devices, and two "researchers" studying an altar. They will profess no idea of how to unlock the secrets of the altar or robot, so it will be up to you show them how it's done.
Interact with the altar to awaken the Construct, who will find you worthy of passing along his special ability: Autobuild.
With this last ability in Link's possession, you can now quickly re-create anything you've constructed (saving the last 30 creations in a history tab), favorite your most-used devices, and unlock new schematics for inventions you may not have thought of.
The two "researchers" will be astounded at your new ability, and ask for a demonstration:
To start, head down and rebuild the car on the right be re-attaching the tire on the front side. This will save the entire car in your Autobuild History.
Next, face the disassembled car and ready your Autobuild ability. It will automatically pull up your history of builds, starting with the vehicle you just fixed.
Select the ability and aim it near the parts, and you'll see the price of building drop as the pieces are found and readied. Once all pieces are ready, press A and it will quickly assemble without using any extra materials from your inventory!
However, now that the "researchers" know the ability works, they'll shed their disguise as they call for their master, you'll need to face an old foe to get out alive.
