Downtown
This The Last of Us 2 Walkthrough Chapter 2: Seattle Day 1 - Downtown explains how to find the gas to start the generator, unlock a hidden trophy, and provides tips for making it through the hotel past the gate. Downtown includes a lot of optional content so pick up every collectible or just follow the main path. It's up to you! This lists every collectible location including 18 Artifacts, 5 Trading Cards, and 2 Journal Entries, 1 Workbench, and 3 safes.
Seattle Day 1 - Downtown Walkthrough
This section begins outside Gate 2 (aka the Fuck FEDRA Gate). After checking the generator and seeing that it doesn’t work you’ll need to find gas Downtown.

Artifact - FEDRA Census Document
You can find this right as you finish The Gate mission and Downtown begins. After you reach East Gate 2 (aka the Fuck FEDRA Gate), you’ll be tasked with finding gasoline for a nearby generator. Nearby on the left is a small gatehouse, and you can search inside for a note in a drawer.
The main path downtown involves going to the Ration Distribution Center / Synagogue for a gas can and then going to the courthouse. For optional areas, scroll down!
Main Path
Gas Location: Enter the Ration Distribution Center / Synagogue
Go to the Ration Distribution Center / Synagogue. Enter and walk down, squeezing through the locked gate. Infected will be lurking around so crouch/crawl through the tall grass and use the logs for cover. Once they’ve been taken down, climb the logs ahead leading over the wooden fence with white paint splattered near the top. Fight the remaining infected and go up the scaffold into the Synagogue.
Inside the Synagogue
Now that you’re in the synagogue loot the empty ration shelves on the right for scraps. In the back, past the open doorway, there are scraps on the table. There’s another open doorway and you can open the next door that leads into the caged area. (You can also enter this area through the main room).

When you’re ready, head to the caged area (across from the ration shelves and to the left from the point of entry). There’s a big, circular opening that leads into two shelves you can squeeze through if you decided to enter from the main room instead of the back room. Push the trolley cart with the boxes straight ahead. Climb it and jump over the yellow bars, into the smaller cage. Pick up the gas can, once inside. Dina will open the cage once you’re out.
Push the trolley cart into the main room and against the metal structure partially covered by a cloth tarp (near the doorway/attention sign). Climb up this! Supplies: pick up the scraps on the table ahead.
Artifact - Emergency Protocols Memo
To the left of the little TV/monitor is an artifact in the form of an Emergency Protocols Memo. OR at the entrance to the Ration Distribution Center (Synagogue), you can find a ladder leading up to a command post looking down on the field below. Search the lookout posts to find a note in one of the drawers. We found the item in two different locations across two different saves.

Before continuing on your journey head to the next room and open the cabinet for a small, optional story moment with Dina.

When you’re ready, turn so that your back is towards these wooden tables (covered with papers and folders). On your left you will see a rope attached to the balcony. Grab it and use it to swing across to the balcony ahead and to your left.
Before exiting the synagogue, enter the room ahead to the back office. There you’ll get some extra dialogue, journal entry, artifact, and supplies (supplements).
Journal Entry - Hebrew Calendar
Interact with the calendar on the wall, behind the desk, for a journal entry.
Artifact - Rabbi Saunders’ Letter
Open the desk drawer in the same office to find a note.

Return to the balcony area and exit out the window. Head down using the ladder/scaffolding.
Stun Bomb Recipe Location
Keep moving and you’ll see a wooden ladder ahead of you. Climb to the top and inspect the small outpost to your right. There, you’ll find a Stun Bomb which unlocked the Stun Bomb Recipe.
Return to your horse and get some gas to fill your new gas can.
Gas Location in The Courthouse
Enter the courthouse by climbing the FEDRA truck and interacting with the window to the right to climb inside. This floor of the courthouse is full of clickers and runners. Here’s how to take everyone down and head through the doors.
Tips:
Do not fire shots because too many will head towards you. Instead, stealth kill the first clicker.
Take them down one room at a time moving further and further into the building.
Here’s a recommended order if you’re struggling to take them all down: clicker in the first room, runner in the attorney library across the hall (left of the original room), return to the first room and push forward until you reach the hall in the back. You’ll need to take down a runner and then a clicker. Finally, turn to take down the final runner that’s staring down the hall. Stealthily killing them from behind. That is, if Dina hasn’t done it already.
Note: Judge’s office has supplements and supplies on the desk.

Head through the doors ahead and down the stairs. Before taking the elevator to the garage be sure to check that floor and the room there.
Artifact - Plea to a Friend
Interact with the decaying bodies for an artifact.
Safe Location - Back Room and Training Manual Location
<p dir="ltr">The brown door on this floor is locked but you can smash the window to get inside. The shelf in that room has a training manual. Check the whiteboard for the code: 86-07-22.
Artifact - Lt. Torres’ Final Memorandum
In that same room, you can pull a machete out of the dead body under the whiteboard to reveal an artifact: Lt. Torres’ Final Memorandum.

Artifact - List of Known WLF Agitators
Open the metal drawers to the left of the whiteboard to find a List of Known WLF Agitators.
Tip: Make sure your items are crafted and your guns are loaded. Head down the elevator shaft and get ready for a bit of a brawl. No stealth this time.
Take the Elevator to the Garage
<p dir="ltr">When you’re ready, go to the elevator and take it to the garage.
Tips:
Hopefully, you grabbed the machete in the room above. Use it to take out the first few runners.
Be sure to dodge as needed.
Once the immediate threats are taken care of pull out your gun of choice. Crouch while shooting for better accuracy.
Once the room is cleared head to the end, turn right, and interact with the gas tank. Just like that, you’ve got gasoline.

Go to the garage door and pull on the adjacent chain to open it. Hold triangle until Dina comes in for the assist. At this point you can choose to explore more of the area or head for the Fuck Fedra gate. Continue with some extras or scroll down to Open Gate 2 aka Fuck FEDRA Gate.
Optional Extras Downtown
Artifact - Cache Hunter Note
Located across the river from where you first enter the large downtown field, look for a small isolated ruined building floor just outside the Westlake Bank building off to the left, and you’ll find a skeleton with a bag that holds a note regarding the nearby bank.
Artifact - Bank Heist Plans
<p dir="ltr">This document can be found at the Westlake Bank, which is located on the left side of the large open field (the southwest building on the downtown map). Once you enter the ruins and drop down into the bank entrance. Defeat the lurking infected and then enter the safety deposit box room, where you’ll find a dead body and a bag that holds the note.

Weapon / Safe - Pump Shotgun
<p dir="ltr">Also located at the bank, use the note from the dead body with the bank heist plans to open the nearby vault, using the code 60, 23, 06, and enter to find another dead body holding a shotgun.
Artifact - Bank Robber Letter
<p dir="ltr">Located in the bank vault - which can be opened using the note outside the vault (60, 23, 06), look on the large main table inside the vault to find a note left by the trapped robber.
Artifact - Antique Ring and So Great and Small Trophy (Hidden Trophy)
<p dir="ltr">This artifact doubles as a trophy, and can be found in the bank’s vault. Enter the vault using the note found outside (the code is 60, 23, 06), and once inside, look in the back right corner behind a table full of money to find an open deposit box that has a small ring inside. <p dir="ltr">Check our trophy guide for more.
Artifact - Letter From Isaac

<p dir="ltr">Further west up the hill past the bank, move down a slope from a collapsed building to find a small plaza with a tank that Dina points out. In the rubble in a corner behind the tank you can find a skeleton holding a bag that contains a note.
Trading Card - Doctor Uckmann
<p dir="ltr">Just to the east of the domed synagogue, you can find a skeletal corner of a building with a few walls and stairway still standing. Climb up the stairs, and break open the windows to move along the outer platforms of the building, allowing you to run and jump to cross the gap to continue climbing to the third floor of the building’s remains. <p dir="ltr">At the top you’ll find WLF inscribed on the wall, along with many supplies - including scrap, supplements, and a trading card in a drawer.
Crafting Training Manual
<p dir="ltr">Look along the destroyed freeway - now a river - to see a section of an on-ramp with a firetruck above a small section of a broken platform with an overturned truck. Head to the ramp via the west side and climb onto a nearby truck to jump onto the ramp where the firetruck is. <p dir="ltr">On the right side of the truck you can find rope attached to the firetruck, and can use it to rappel down halfway, before using R1 to begin swinging to the broken platform where the truck has overturned. Keep swinging to gain momentum before jumping to the platform, and search the tipped over truck for supplements, scrap, food, and a training manual!
Artifact - Informant Letter
<p dir="ltr">Along the freeway-turned-river, you can find a caravan of FEDRA trucks that were ambushed by WLF. In the middle of the river is a truck you can open to find several skeletons of officers, and will also hold items like scrap and a letter.
Trading Card - Das Wort

<p dir="ltr">Located inside the music shop near the Synagogue, look behind the main front counter when you enter the shop for a drawer next to the cash register where this trading card is hiding.
Workbench Location - Tent Near Music Shop
<p dir="ltr">There are plenty of supplies and a workbench off to the side, in an elevated grass area near the music shop, and north of the domed synagogue. You can reach the spot by exiting the music shop on the second floor and crossing the outpost bridge, or squeezing through a nearby gate.
Artifact - Street Drawing
<p dir="ltr">Head to the left of the tent (across from the music store) and open the drawer in the small outpost bridge over the street for a sketch.
Journal - Street View
<p dir="ltr">After picking up the sketch, look out at the view to add a sketch of Shimmer as a journal entry.

Artifact - WLF Safe House Supply Note
<p dir="ltr">At the corner of 5th and Spring St, north of the Courthouse, you can find a small place called Ruston Coffee that has breakable windows. Enter through the windows after breaking them out to find several supplies, including scrap, ammo, and a supply note.
Trading Card - Big Blue
<p dir="ltr">Also located inside Ruston Coffee, check in the drawers below the coffee machine in the back of the front room to find a trading card.
Artifact - Pet Store Keys
<p dir="ltr">Head to the back of the coffee shop and be prepared to eliminate an Infected waiting in the last stall. Once the enemy is dealt with, turn your attention to the fold out changing station, where a key with a dog bone tag has been left behind, revealing the address of the shop it's used to unlock - which isn't all that far from where you are.
Artifact - WLF Community Supply Chest Note
<p dir="ltr">Just to the south of the Courthouse, and a bit east of Gate West 2, look for some stairs across from a US Flag between 5th and 6th avenue leading up to a building, and along the walkway you’ll find some containers and a bag with a note inside.

Artifact - Join WLF Note
<p dir="ltr">This piece of literature is located inside Barkos Pet Shop (which has been converted into a WLF safehouse). To enter, you’ll need to find a key, which is located in the bathroom at Ruston Coffee (at the corner of 5th and Spring). The key has the address of the shop (in a back alley at 6th an Marion), and inside you can find a printer with stacks of propaganda you can check out - as well as plenty of supplies and a stun bomb.
Upgrade - Long Gun Holster
<p dir="ltr">Also located inside Barkos Pet Shop is a gun holster - but you’ll need to claim the key from Ruston Coffee’s bathroom.
Trading Card / Safe - Flo
<p dir="ltr">Locate the Gate West 2 below the Courthouse at Madison and 5th, and squeeze through the open gate to find a safe with the note “use Gate Code” consult your notes to find the list of codes and enter 04, 51. The safe will contain a ton of scrap, supplements, ammo, health, and a trading card.
Optional Extras Over
Open Gate 2 (aka the Fuck FEDRA Gate)

Get on your horse and head to Gate 2 aka Fuck FEDRA Gate. Be sure to pull up your map if you need to. Once there, it’s time to power up the generator and then punch in the code (5345).
Continue through the gate, jumping over the barbed while on your horse. Get on your horse and press forward, ride past the WLF (wolf banner) and you’ll see infected hop the fence. That’s your way in. Climb the blue dumpster and jump into the next area.
The Serevena Hotel
Infected are in the hotel ahead. Take them down. <p dir="ltr">Tips:
Be sure to use you hearing and rotate the camera to get a sense of each of them.
Take them down one by one, starting with the one on the left, by the check-in counter.
Duck behind cover and toss a Molotov cocktail at the ones feasting, chances are the other runners will burn themselves a bit in the process. You can shoot them at this point or wait for them to return to regular movement and potentially take them down stealthily.
Interact with the dead body for some extra dialogue and be sure to loot the remains for some ammo.
There’s scrap to loot behind the desk area, some explosive powder off to the side, and other supplies in this main lobby.
When you’re ready go through the doors. Optional supplies and story: interact with the dead body for more info; loot the items in the concierge (employees only) room. Interact with the gas pile for more details. Go upstairs. Note: Room 215 has supplements and a rag in the bathroom of the suite.
Artifact - WLF Recruiter Journal

Continue ahead to Room 216 and find an artifact in the drawer under the TV called WLF Recruiter Journal.
Trading Card - Know It All
<p dir="ltr">Also located in the Serevena Hotel, enter room 216 - the same room with the WLF Recruiter Journal note, and look in the drawer between the two beds to find a trading card.Go across the hall to room 217 for a cutscene. When you’re ready follow Dina out the door into the open, drop onto the van, and then jump to the floor.
Head to Gate East 1 and get off your horse. Get the generator while Dina enters the code. Keep moving forward and a cutscene will lead you into the next section: Seattle Day 1 - Eastbrook Elementary.
