Easter Eggs and References

Whether you're playing the original Super Mario RPG for the Super Nintendo, or the Super Mario RPG Remake for the Nintendo Switch, there are many fun easter eggs to find and references to other Nintendo games, if you know where to look.

Link's (Lack of) Awakening

One of the first easter eggs you can find is a reference to The Legend of Zelda. Once you have completed the Forest Maze and defeated Bowyer, return to Rose Town to find the village has been restored to its former glory. If you return to the Inn and talk to the mother of Gaz, you can spend the night again, and when you wake up, Link from the Zelda series will be asleep in the bed next to you!

He won't wake up, but if you try and interact with him, it will play a classic Zelda jingle!

Nintendo Action Figures

While you can find Gaz playing with a few familiar Super Mario-themed dolls in Rose Town, he's not the only one who loves action figures.

Head to Booster Tower and make your way to the very top of the tower, in the room leading to the balcony where Princess Peach is being kept. In this room, there is a box of toys, and includes not only Peach, but Samus from the Metroid series as well!

The Galaxy is at Peace

Samus isn't just a toy in the Super Mario RPG, you can find the bounty hunter herself as well!

Once you leave Monstro Town and begin the journey to Nimbus Land, you can stop back at Mushroom Kingdom and enter the castle.

Take the path to the right and go into the room above the Vault to find the Guest Room. Here you can find Samus Aran resting in a bed, and if you interact, she'll tell you she's "resting up for Mother Brain", a final boss of the several Metroid games.

Nintendo's Starships

There's one last place to find some interesting Nintendo figurines. Make your way past Nimbus Land to the Barrel Volcano, and you'll find a secret store along the route where you can purchase various items. Check the back right part of the room to find a shelf with several figurines of ships from different Nintendo games, including the Blue Falcon from F-Zero, and Arwing from Star Fox, and Samus' Gunship from Metroid.
