Super Mario 3D World,?previously known as Super Mario for Wii U, game draws heavy inspiration and design elements from Super Mario 3D Land for Nintendo 3DS. The game was announced during Nintendo's pre-E3 2013 Nintendo Direct on June 11th and was released November 22, 2013.

3D World will support four players simultaneously. Toad, Luigi, Princess Peach and Mario are all playable characters. All four characters have unique traits, just as they did back in Super Mario Bros. 2. Like in Super Mario Bros. 2, Peach can once again briefly float in mid-air; Toad is slightly faster with a slightly different weight; and Luigi once again has a longer, higher jump.

Other additions made to the game are:

• A competitive Scoring system has been added to encourage level replay and friendly competition.
• Collectibles include Green Stars and Stamps
• Secret Warp Zones return
• Each character has a special trait. Luigi jumps higher, Peach can float and Toad runs the fastest.
• Touching a moving object/enemy on the Wii U GamePad will cause that object/enemy to freeze in place.
• Super Mario 3D World can be played entirely with the Pro Controller.
