Best Abilities
Star Wars Outlaws gives players a chance to live out their dreams of scum and villainy. Whether it’s robbing the local syndicates or mixing it up with Stormtroopers, you’ll need sharp wits and well-honed skills. If you want to be the best – or baddest – you can be, then these are the best abilities to unlock first in Star Wars Outlaws.
We've included information on where you'll meet some experts, but if you need more help, be sure to check out our Experts and Abilities guide.
Fast-Talk and Keep Talking
To unlock skills, you first need to unlock Expert mentors who can teach them to you. They are scattered throughout the game and generally hidden behind special quests. The exception is your friend Bram the Bartender, a mentor from the start.

He will teach you Fast Talk, which functions almost like a get-out-of-jail-free card. If you are spotted trying to sneak around you will have a brief opportunity to distract your would-be captor, then stun them before making a speedy getaway.
Once you’ve done the Fast-Talk-stun combination five times you will unlock Keep Talking. Now you can hold the attention of an entire group of people, which will come in handy when paired with another ability listed below.
Speeder Boost and Jump
Next is Selo Rovak. Soon after you land on Toshara, you’ll receive a quest called The Mechanic. Follow it to track down Selo, and then she’ll ask you to retrieve a rare part. Once you bring it back, she enables the boost ability for your speeder and becomes a new Expert teacher.
Now, find a good ramp on Toshara, and if you can clear 60 meters of airtime, you’ll unblock a handy vertical jump move. Given how much you use your speeder, these two skills will be huge time savers that help you get around much quicker, and possibly save you from unfortunately placed Imperial roadblocks.
Upgraded Slicing Kit
Make sure to complete The Slicer quest as soon as it pops up on Toshara. It’ll send you to rescue the expert hacker Aila Bren. Aila will give you an updated toolkit for splicing that lets you hack into things that don’t have a ready-made port. It also adds new “joker” glyphs to eliminate groups of symbols quickly, meaning you can hack into systems much easier.
Treasure Hunter
Like any good outlaw, you are going to want to fill your pockets with some treasure when you get the chance. Fortunately, The Mechanic also has a handy ability for that: Treasure Hunter.
You’ll need to loot 10 containers and bond with your adorable buddy Nix by finding four ways to make him happy. Once you do, you’ll get an audio cue every time you’re near treasure, and loot containers will light up when you use your senses, even through walls.

Smoke Bomb
The Mechanic has one more good trick up her sleeves for you in the form of smoke bombs. These are extremely useful, creating opportunities for a quick escape or new approaches to stealth.
You’ll need to gather seven Polycarbonate and three MG-2 Power Exceeder parts scattered around Toshara, along with the Smoke Compressor held in a small outpost in the Fallen Mound. But it’s worth it for the opportunity to disappear in a puff of smoke. The Abilities page will automatically mark the location of the Smoke Compressor, so don’t worry about searching for it.
Electro-Shock Prod
Whether it’s frightening Death Troopers or muscular Gamorreans, some enemies are just too big or tough for you to knock out with your bare hands, and that can make sneaking through some areas pretty tough.
Do yourself a favor and make friends with Temmin Wexley, The Scavenger, on the planet Akiva. His quest will be available shortly after you reach a major point in Akiva's main questline. The Scavenger will build you the Electro-Shock Prod in exchange for an NK-02 Charge Emitter, 15 Chalcopyrite, and five Ion Cells. All you need to do is track them down, then you can start stealthily zapping your way through even the toughest of guards.
Can I Try That?
On the planet Kijimi, you’ll find The Mercenary named Rooster Trace. The bartender at the Domak Refectory can point you in her direction. It’s worth tracking her down because as soon as she agrees to be your teacher, she enables the Can I Try That? ability.
This ability allows you to pick up and use heavy imperial weaponry. This can be an absolute lifesaver in some of the tougher scripted fight scenarios, as you put up a shield and unleash havoc from a rotary blaster cannon.
Laser Turret and Cheeky Explosion
Visit the ship mechanic in Mos Eisley and ask him to install a turret on your ship. He will then point you towards Teeka, a Jawa Hotfixer who has a couple of nice abilities for you to unlock after you complete his self-titled quest, The Hotfixer.

Right off the bat, he will set up the auto turret for your ship, which can be activated in space combat to automatically track and fire at nearby enemies. Next, you should unlock the Cheeky Explosion ability.
You’ll need to use Nix to pickpocket three items and complete three different eating minigames at the various restaurants around the galaxy. But it’s well worth it when you can send your little buddy to borrow just the pin from an enemy’s grenade, triggering explosions while you’re at a safe distance.
Just Improvise
This last one is a bit of a spoiler for a cool cameo, so if you want to remain spoiler-free, skip ahead to the very bottom of the page for another guide recommendation.
Talk to the bartender and listen around the cantina in Myrra, a city on the planet Akiva. You’ll be directed towards a parlor where a high-stakes game of Sabacc is taking place. When you get there, you’ll be greeted by Lando Calrissian, The High Roller, who will become an Expert trainer after you complete his quest.
Once he is on your side, focus on getting your reputation with at least three of the Syndicates up to Good status. Then, track down the necessary keycards to rob two of their vaults. That can be a lot of work, but it’s worth it to unlock the Just Improvise ability.
With this, those situations when you’re Fast-Talking your way out of trouble will also fill up your adrenaline meter. This allows you to mark and eliminate groups of enemies after being caught. Combine that with the Keep Talking ability, and getting spotted becomes a fast way to clear a room of enemies.
