The Shovel is just one of the many crucial survival items that you can find in Sons of the Forest. It can be used to get your hands on even more goodies such as GPS Locators, a Shotgun, and other handy resources. Before you can get the Shovel, though, you'll need to grab two essential pieces of equipment before you can even attempt to get it - the Zipline Rope Gun and the Rebreather. So, here's everything you need to know about navigating the cave including changes introduced as part of the 1.0 update.

Shovel Location: How to Find the Shovel

The Shovel can be found on the west side of the map, in a cave just before you reach the snowy mountains. We've marked it on the map below, so you know the area you want to head for.

Outside you'll find three workers that are stuck on spikes. Before you go inside the cave, go over to the one in the middle to get your hands on a Slingshot.

Pick this up, break down the boards at the entrance of the cave, and then head inside.

Where to Find the Shovel Inside the Cave

When you first step inside, all you'll see is a sheer drop at the end of this part of the cave, that goes down into a small body of water with skeletons. Drop down here to pick up a few resources, including an Air Tank.

Climb back up from this pit and then look up. You'll see a rope that goes across and some cloth hanging from it. Take the cloth and then use the Zipline Rope Gun to reach the next area.

When you drop down in this section, go to the right and collect some resources such as Tape, Energy Drinks, and Meds. Then go into the water, on the left, and dive down straight away to find the tunnel that will take you into the next cave section.

Keep swimming down as far as you can go, and continue following the underwater tunnel. This will take you into the next cave section, but be careful, as there are a few mutants here who will run at you as you get out of the water.

Follow the path and be sure to pick up the items along the way, including a Wetsuit, Air Tank, and 9mm Ammo that's sitting by the rocks on the right. You'll run into a few more cannibals along the way, before eventually coming to a slope that you'll slide down.

As you walk towards this, you'll automatically go sliding down and then reach the next room. When you land the water, turn right around and go towards the area that's lit up. This area is filled with cases that have resources so, pick up as much as you can. Then continue onwards through the path until you reach the room with the bodies of workers illuminated by a small light.

There are mutants here, too that you can either run from or fight, and more resources in this room to collect. Once you've picked up what you can, head for the second light at the back of the room, and through the tunnels to continue your journey toward the shovel.

You'll reach a bigger room, with a light shining at the back and a glowing red laptop in the middle near two bodies. Make your way over to the laptop and interact with it to have the location of Maintenance Bunker A added to your map. Now look at the body sitting next to the laptop to pick up the Flashlight Attachment.

Continue further into the cave toward the light, and at the next illuminated section, you'll find a case with some supplies.

Go left at the end of this room, to enter a path into the next area. Along the way, you'll be able to pick up plenty of Dollar Notes. Keep going straight ahead, as you dive into a smaller body of water. Swim straight and you'll emerge on the other side, where more mutants will be waiting for you.

Follow this path and when the tunnel starts to open up, go to the right and you'll see a light in the distance. This room is filled with plenty of danger, so you can just run toward the light and grab the shovel if you want to avoid a fight.

By the light is a body of a worker, who is holding the all-important Shovel. Grab this, then work your way back through the cave system.

Eventually, you'll hear a big mutant break through one of the tunnels you previously ran through. This is where any kind of explosive can be used. Throw this at the mutant, then you can follow this path (where you'll encounter lots of mutant babies) to reach the exit of the cave. This will bring you out into a different part of the forest than where you entered this cave system.

And that's it -- now you can go dig up all those items!
