Tips and Tricks
Welcome to IGN's complete list of Ring Fit Adventure Tips and Tricks. These handy hints will help you get the most out of Ring Fit Adventure.
Do the Exercises Well
This seems like a no brainer but putting effort into the exercises in battle modes really pays off. You'll probably notice you do extra damage for keeping good form and going deeper into activities like squats. You'll know you're going deep enough into the exercise by the flames that erupt around the body part you're working out and your head. Don't worry if, for example, Ring is telling you "Lower!" during a squat, that's just the basic instruction for the exercise, not a comment on your form.
The added bonus is this game is all about helping you get fit and by putting effort in and trying to properly do the routines, you'll also see the payoff in your own body. In this game, trying to cheat on these things is ultimately only cheating yourself.

Play With the Stages
It's a silly easter egg but pushing air or trying to vacuum up random things in levels can give you extra coins or even hearts. Try Ring Pushing or pulling at various items you see throughout the stage, like animals, sign posts, or anything to see what you can get.
Check Your Equipment
If you don't think your exercises and Fit Skills are working properly in battle, hit the 'plus' button to get some help on checking you're set up correctly.
Go Back
If things are proving a little difficult go back and do some previous levels. Not only is this good for leveling yourself up but you can also see how far you've come - often these older levels are probably easier than you remember them when you first gave yourself a shot.
How to do the Best Ab Guard
If you think you're taking too much damage when an enemy attacks, you might not be pushing in hard enough during your ab guards. If you don't see a big shield pop up like this one, you might need to push in a bit harder.
As Ring says, the Ab Guard is meant to be felt in your abs. Make sure to bend your knees slightly like in the picture, and brace your core (tighten your muscles) as if you're about to be punched. You shouldn't just be sucking in - your abs should be pushing on the ring. A good cue for this is to breathe out and brace your abs as you do this. It's the same sort of bracing technique that should be used when deadlifting, for example.

Swap Starting Sides
Sometimes in Ring Fit you'll have Exercises and Fit Skills that have you swap sides midway but they always seem to start with the left side. In the case of killing monsters prematurely, this can mean you overwork one side while the other is neglected. Where possible, try to swap your starting side if you feel this happening to get a more even workout.
You can also choose to do all Fit Skills to completion in the menu to avoid stopping before both sides get their share.
Use the Menu to Check Your Stats and Change Settings
From the map screens, press B on your Ring-Con Joy-Con to open the menu. You can do all sorts of things in here like change worlds and settings. You can also view a summary of your exercises.
How and When to Change Difficulty
The menu you get to by pressing B is also where you can change your difficulty. If you're struggling to get through a level, consider lowering the difficulty. One of us were set at 22 after the "fit test" in the beginning, for example, but felt more comfortable scaling down to 18 and working up from there.
Speaking of working up, if at first it felt difficult but you've been playing consistently, consider bumping up the difficulty by a point or two each week. Your goal is to make it feel like the difficulty is similar, even though the difficulty is going up. This will maximize your real life fitness gains!
On the other hand, if you take more than a week off from Ring Fit (or exercising in general), consider lowering the difficulty by a point or two when you return and go from there, especially if you weren't already active before Ring Fit.
Setting Fit Skills
Once you get to a high enough level and have unlocked enough Fit Skills and Exercises, you'll need to start being picky about which ones you take into battle. Before a you start a stage, it may recommend you have a particular colour of Fit Skill set. This gives you an idea of the enemies you're about to face.

Make sure to choose Fit Skills that will let you take on all sorts of enemies and if you're having trouble with a stage, try changing out your set skills to give you a greater advantage.
Complete More Stages For New Skills
There are actually a lot of exercises available to unlock in Ring Fit Adventure, and changing up your load-out can really help you in battle. So don't skip the Battle Gyms and levels off the main path - you'll want to unlock those fit skills!
You can also choose different exercises based on areas you want to target on your body, or things you find easier if you're having trouble. Having a big arsenal of exercises will definitely help you progress.
Reset the Ring When Needed
When in a jogging level, you can always point the ring down and press in. When you've started an exercise, sometimes, it may not register correctly. Maybe you really are reaching below parallel with your squats and Ring just doesn't think it's good enough. In that case, go to the Switch main menu and then go back into the Ring Fit Adventure app. This should recalibrate the Joy-Con.
Set a Healing Move ASAP
You'll eventually get exercises that heal you. Make sure to have at least one equipped at all times so you don't burn through smoothies.
Don't Overload on One Color Exercise
Even when levels recommend one particular exercise, like core or arms, make sure to have other exercise types set. You'll probably run into enemies with other weaknesses, unless it's a body-part specific boss (you'll know what we mean when you get there.)

Even then, you may not want to go overboard with one type of exercise - our bodies can definitely get too fatigued working out too much of the same muscle group!
Change Your Goal
While you play Ring Fit Adventure the little timer in the bottom left tells you how long you've been going for. It only counts actual exercise time so any time standing still, listening to explanations, or paused won't count.
However, if time exercised isn't what you care most about, you can change it. Use the trigger on the Joy-Con attached to the Ring-Con and it will cycle through other metrics like distance run and calories burned.
Use whichever suits your goals the best.
Always Stretch
As Ring and Tipp have told you, stretching is very important after exercising. You may even want to stretch for some extra time after your workout with Ring Fit is done for the day. Stretching may be uncomfortable in a good way, but should never be painful.
As a bonus, some of the stretching routines like Dynamic stretches or Static stretches can even reward you with a little extra experience points.
Play on a Yoga Mat or Carpet (or both)
This isn't necessary, but having a soft surface to put your hands when doing Planks or Mountain Climbers will make it easier on your wrists. A yoga mat will also make it easier to hold yoga poses without sliding, and if the yoga mat is on carpet, make it a soft enough surface to run in place on without shoes. It's not recommended to run in place on a hard surface barefoot, but you do you if it doesn't cause you foot or shin pain.
