Exploration Day 15: Hero's Hideaway - Doppelganger's Den Cave

On this page, you can find information on how to approach Day 15 and the focus on Rescue Olimar including details on finding crucial Treasures, missing civilian castaways, and more.
How to Unlock Hero's Hideaway - Night Expeditions
Once you've completed Sun-Speckled Terrace, Blossoming Arcadia, and Serene Shores, you'll have to switch to completing Night Expeditions. You'll need to go on 3 Night Expeditions to recover Bernard the Pilot and unlock Hero's Hideaway to progress.Starting Day 15 - At the Rescue Command Post
If you've been following our walkthrough so far, you should be able to check off some Side Missions and have enough to purchase the items, gear, and upgrades for Oatchi. So, before you set off on your journey to rescue Captain Olimar from Hero's Hideaway, here's what we recommend you do:
- Speak to Dingo. You'll be able to report back that you've completed Investigate Areas 3 and can begin Investigate Areas 4.
- Speak to Mika. You'll be able to let her know that the students have been returned safe and sound.
- Speak to Russ. We'd recommend purchasing the Air Armor+ for Oatchi and Brace Boots. This will help you from being blown around by creatures, and increase Oatchi's ability to absorb damage.
- Speak to Shepherd. Learn Mega Rush Lv. 1 and Lv. 2.
- Speak to Corgwin. This will start the Side Mission Dandori Battle challenges.
- Speak to Bernard. This will begin the Side Mission Cure the Leaflings 1.

Hero’s Hideaway
When you arrive at Hero's Hideaway, it will immediately look familiar. It is, of course, the place that Captain Olimar was seen at during the Prologue of the game. The difference being this time, you'll be able to take out all your Pikmin straight away.
Once you've got your Pikmin from the Onion, turn around and go behind the cushions to get some Raw Material.
Then follow the path you took as Olimar, going through the fences and over to the board. Use your Rock Pikmin to take out the mites here, and then Rush with Oatchi at the board. This will drop two treasures for you to collect.

Relentless Spear
Then go right, and either use the tunnel to get down to the ground, or just drop down. As soon as you do, Moss, who happens to be sleeping on the couch above, will wake up.
Dealing With Moss
Moss will now follow you for the entirety of your time in Hero's Hideaway. Moss also has a Whistle, and will call you Pikmin away. The best way of stopping Moss from stealing your Pikmin is to attack and temporarily stop her. Moss won't attack, and will deliver your Pikmin to a safe location after a while, but it saves you the hassle of worrying about her stealing your Pikmin if you can stun her for a while.
Go right, and head underneath the table. Take out the mites here, then collect the pile of Raw Material.
Take a right again, going towards the tusked creature, and defeat them. Head over to the grass behind them, and pick up the Trap Lid.

Look left of the grass to see a climbing wall that needs to be built. Have your Pikmin work on this, while you continue to go left with the others and explore more of the room.
Soon after moving away from the climbing wall, on the right, underneath the cabinet, you'll be able to see another treasure hidden.

Now hop up on the wooden steps on the left, to reach the bag. Rush at the bag to get the next treasure to drop down.
Shooting-Star Shield
Go towards the bugs carrying the rocks and use your Rock Pikmin to break the rocks down, and take down the creatures. Collect the Raw Material they drop, and then continue toward the base you'll see in the distance.
Use Yellow Pikmin to beat the creatures here, then move the base to this position. Go back to where you took down the rock beetles, and go underneath the yellow suitcase. There will be more rock beetles here, a pile of Raw Material to transport back, and another treasure.
Spinning Memories Plank
Go back with your Pikmin to the base, then head for the breakable pots near the stairs. Rush into these to smash them, and a creature will be revealed. Use Rock Pikimin to get the gold from its back and reveal its vulnerable spot.
When you've beaten it, use the Yellow Pikmin to dig the tunnel behind it and create a shortcut. Leave it for now, and turn back around to the base. While you're waiting for the tunnel to be excavated, go right. There will be a smattering of the rock beetles around here to take out. Clear out the area, then get the pile of Raw Material in the right-hand corner.
The Fan to the Chamber
You'll see a fan here around the rock beetles and before the pile of Raw Material. If you ride it, you'll land outside a locked chamber. You need to find 3 Treasures that will give you the code to get in. You can ignore it for now, until you have the 3 Treasure (which are playing cards). However, this will be where Moss brings the Pikmin she stills whenever she drops them, so keep that in mind.
Now go back to the base, and then right, heading for the table again. You'll want to climb up to the top of the table where you took on the Porquillion during the prologue. Rush the metal grate to knock it down and climb up to the top. You'll now have to fight the giant beetle on top of the table.
The best way to approach this is to prepare your Rock Pikmin to be thrown. As soon as it starts to suck in air, throw your Rock Pikmin at the hole at the top of its body. This will plug the hole up, forcing it to open its wings and revealing its soft back.
Run around behind it, Rush it, or send your Pikmin to attack with a charging horn. Repeat this until it's dead, then it will drop another treasure.
Divine Balloon
Look at the button on the top of the table and press it to turn on the fans. Ride the fan over to the couch, and go to the right to collect 5 Gold Nuggets.

Then go left and take out the mite using a Rock Pikmin. Pick up the pile of Raw Material. Now you want to face away from the couch and wait for the platforms to come around. Hop onto one of the platforms and you'll want to ride it all the way round to the armchair on the left.
The first treasure you'll come to will be the Priceless Bird that's hanging from the light.

Stay on the platform until it travels to the armchair, to pick up the Number Jumper.

Drop down and go back to the climbing wall you built earlier, then climb up. There will be another creature here with gold on its back to take down, but ultimately, you're heading for the first sublevel cave of this area.
This will be the last thing you'll want to do for Exploration Day 15, so jump down when the treasure's been delivered to the S.S. Beagle.
Doppelganger’s Den
Go forward as you land in Doppelganger's Den and use Ice Pikmin to break down the Ice Wall. Now go left and fight the creature with the gold on its back. When it's safe, turn towards the Hydro Jelly. Have some Pikmin smash this, while you send some Pikmin to the left and carve out the tunnel to make a shortcut.
Go back to the start of the level and go through the now-broken wall toward the pool of water. Fight the creatures in the water, and break the Hydro Jelly. Have your Blue Pikmin collect the treasure and send the rest to get the Raw Material pile.
Astringent Clump
Go to where the tunnel your Pikmin just created leads to, to collect the ones who went through it. You'll also find another treasure here for you to collect in the pot next to it. Be careful of another gold-wearing creature here.
Merciless Extractor
Go back to the room with the pool and over to the other side of the water. You want to head towards the lemon you should be able to see in the distance. Use Ice Pikmin to freeze the water and get across to the treasure.
Face Wrinkler
Once you have this, you make your way down to sublevel 2.
Sublevel 2
The first thing you'll see as you land in sublevel 2 is a button. Don't press it for now, instead head left to fight the creature and pick up some more White Pikmin if needed from the Candypop Bud.
Now go back to the S.S Beagle and go right. Take out the creature here, pluck the Ice Pikmin from the tube, and then go to the far corner to find the next treasure. Be careful as you go to collect it, as loads of bugs will appear from the ground and send your Pikmin scrambling.
Gifting Vase
Make your way back to the S.S. Beagle and go back up the path on the left. Jump on the ledge to the right, then hop off on Oatchi. Keep all your Pikmin on you and switch to playing as Oatchi.
Send him out to press the button, changing the walls that are raised and lowered so you can reach the next treasures. Go forward with your Pikmin and attack with your White Pikmin. Then, pick up the treasure from above.
Life Controller
Drop down to the left and go through the small tunnel. The Pikmin will also be able to go through here with the treasures, so you don't need to worry about swapping back to Oatchi yet. Go right as you exit the tunnel and pick up the next treasure that sits in the path.
Granddaughter Doll Head
Continue up the corridor and go past the room on the left to go get Oatchi, but come straight back to it. All that's left to get in this room is the pile of Gold Nuggets in the corner.

When they've been transported, go down to sublevel 3.
Sublevel 3
At the start of sublevel 3, go over to the right side of the room with the water spiders and fan. Take out the spiders first, so they don't try to pick up anything you carry back to the S.S. Beagle.
Look to the right once you've beaten the second one and get the pile of Raw material. Now go back to the fan and ride this up to the moving platform. Use this to reach the bunch of grapes hanging from the ceiling.
Dusk Pustules
Drop down to the left and clear out the mold form around the White Candypop Bud. Then turn 5 of your Pikmin into White Pikmin. Go over to the walkway in the far right corner, then use Rush to ride over it. Allow it to drag you back toward where you came from, but throw a Pikmin at the white button to lower the iron fences.
Go to the iron fence that just lowered, and send in White Pikmin to destroy the poisonous mushrooms. While they're doing that, go to the left and back toward the S.S. Beagle. Then take the sloped walkway up immediately behind it. Pick up the memory fragment from here then ride the fan.

When you ride the fan over to the next section, pick up the fruit that sits on the platform. Then, press the red button to change the direction of the moving walkways.
Pocked Airhead
Go back down to where the White Pikmin were removing the poisonous mushrooms, and go over to the base in the middle of the room. When you approach it, an armored creature will appear from the ground. Take this out to be able to use the base. Now use Ice Pikmin to freeze the water around the base, to make it easier for everything to be transported back here.
Citrus Lump
Go to the right side of the base and clear out the mold then pick up the Orange. Then, go behind this (but still on the right side) to get the pile of Gold Nuggets.

Now go to the left side of the base and clear the mold and the poisonous mushrooms. Then smash the pots to find another Candypop Bud and transform more Pikmin into White Pikmin.
When you have everything, you can go over to the left side of the room and build the climbing wall to make it easier to get out and into sublevel 4.
Sublevel 4
Sublevel 4 is a boss fight to get back the castaway in this cave. And the fight is against a giant version of the creature with gold on its back. Before you attack it, go around the room and smash the pots. You'll find two different treasures and a pile of Gold Nuggets in them.

How to Beat the Doppelganger's Den Boss
The method of attacking this creature is to focus on the gold. You want to knock the gold off of its back, which reveals an orange circle. There are multiple orange circles over its back, which are all weak spots. As you attack, these will get smaller until they're completely destroyed and will do damage to the creature.
When the gold is knocked from its back, you want to send some Pikmin to destroy the gold. If you don't, the creature will keep coming back for the gold and putting it on its back, to cover the weak spot.
As it shakes your Pikmin from its back, quickly Whistle and recall them. Otherwise, they'll be licked up and eaten by the creature. When you've killed it, it will drop the final treasure for this cave.
Thrill-Ride Track
Head towards the exit and smash the pots. This is where you'll find the castaway for Doppelganger's Den.
When you exit the sublevel cave, the day will likely be coming to an end so round all up your Pikmin and get back to the Rescue Command Post.
