Base Raids
Palworld base raids are events that occur semi-randomly throughout the game where enemies will attempt to get into and destroy your base. The enemies will attack your buildings and Pals, and just generally cause a lot of chaos. However, there are a few ways to deal with them, and a few rules to be aware of too.
Base Raid Basics
Base raids come in a few different forms based on a few different factors. One of the most important factors is the placement of your base, but probably not in the way you'd expect.
While the biome your base is in is relevant to the kind of raids you'll be on the receiving end of, there's one other deciding factor. Palworld base raids increase in difficulty the further away from your starting point your base is. That means that if you start in the southern areas and build a base in the north, you'll find the base raids far harder.
How To Beat Base Raids
Base raids can end in two ways. The first and most straightforward way is that you simply defeat all the raiders. You can do this yourself using any weapons and equipment you have to hand, along with your team of Pals, or you can leave it up to your Pals in the base and any traps and defenses you've set up.
The raid will also end if it times out. Every raid has a time limit on it, and if you can keep the raiders busy until the timer runs itself down, you'll complete the raid. If you can mess with the raider's pathfinding by constructing border walls, you may be able to simply waste their time.
Set Up Defenses
The first thing you'll want to do is make sure you pick up defense items from the Palworld technology tree as you level up. One of the most useful items you can unlock is the Alarm Bell.
This item is one you can use to basically tell your Pals to move away from their usual tasks and get ready for a fight. If you combine it with things like Sandbags and weapons, you can create a rapid response force that'll help you fight off intruders. That's especially true if the base raids for your particular base always come from the same place, because you can basically turn it into a tower defense game.
If you throw in things like the bear traps and hanging traps you unlock as you level up, you can create an incredibly hard-to-deal-with mix of defenses that can stave off even the hardiest raids without much issue.
Swap Out Pals
You will generally take your strongest fighters out with you as you're adventuring around. These tend to be the ones that you'll give skill fruits and also craft the best gear for, and while it's nice to send one out during a base raid, you can have them all in play if you want to.
All you need to do is go to your Palbox and swap out your standard base Pals with your team. Doing this will mean that you suddenly have your full team of Pals out on the battlefield ready to throw down with any intruders. It's a very powerful way to defend yourself, but make sure to swap everything back around again once you've successfully defended yourself, or you'll find your efficiency in battle and at the base are dramatically reduced.
Just Quit Out
Finally, you'll be glad to know that if things are going south far faster than you'd expected, there is one final way to deal with things - if you're playing a single-player game, that is. If you exit the game, the game will keep everything as it was, but the raid will be cancelled. Then, when you load back into the game, everything will be over, and no further damage will befall your base.
This can cause some temporary issues with your base Pals, but it's ultimately a lot better than just soaking up the damage they're going to do anyway, which is a good thing for most people.
