Base Building Progression Guide
Palworld is a game all about survival, and while the cute monsters and the absurdity of giving some of them rocket launchers is a nice draw, at the end of the day, you're not going to see any of that unless you build yourself a nice base. So, we've got a few tips here for base building in Palworld to help you not only get started, but also stay safe.
First Palworld Base
As with so many housing-based things in life, the first thing you should consider is location, location, location.
While you can find plenty of resource-heavy areas as you progress through the game, the choices when you're just starting off aren't as bountiful. A lot of players will be tempted to build a base right next to the fast-travel statue.
However, you should go down a couple of levels to the area to the right of the little pool that has not only a lot of trees and rocks, but also an ore vein and a few Paldium veins as well. This will make resource gathering a lot easier in both the short and long term. Also, you'll need to reach level 2 and unlock the Palbox to set up your base. With those two things in mind, let's move on.
Building Your First Base
Once you've hit level 2, you need to place your Palbox down. Do so in the middle of the area you want to claim, as the zone it creates extends in all directions.
Your assigned Pals (which you'll get more of as you level up) can reach anything in that zone, which means those that can cut down trees or mine will do so happily. It also means that any that can transport goods will pick things up and take them to chests, which is very important.
You'll also need an area for Pal beds. To keep them happy, each Pal needs a bed, so putting them in one area, and making sure they've got a Feed Box nearby is a great idea. It's also worth having a campfire for general warmth.
Setting up Crafting
From there, it's worth having an area with easily accessible crafting tables lined up, but with a gap between each to allow your Pals to get involved. We lined ours up against the riverbank here, but you can do as you see fit.
You'll then want to place things like the Berry Plantation, Ranch, Logging Site, and Stone Pit, somewhere in the middle. These can be worked on by multiple Pals at once, so having them in a larger space is a huge boon.
You'll then want to set up several chests that are easy to access. This will help your transport Pals move everything over as it's made, mined, or chopped down.
As you level up you'll unlock new crafting tables, just keep adding in the new ones as you go and you'll be golden.
Setting Up Defenses
Palworld has a few base raids, which are semi-random events that will have your home base attacked by different Pals or Syndicate members. These are unsettling to begin with, but can generally be fended off with a few good Pals and a bow. However, as things go on, those raids are going to become far scarier.
Because of this, it's worth setting up defenses when you can, and also upgrading wooden items, like your small home and chests, to the metallic upgrades when you can do, as they're less likely to be destroyed if a Pal that uses fire comes knocking.
Sandbags allow you to assign Pals to protect your base from raids, and you can combine those with Wooden Defensive Walls (or better when you're a high enough level).
Once you hit level 26, you'll be able to build Mounted Crossbows, and from here, you'll want to position walls in a way that funnel enemies into a specific path, and then join with your defensive Pals to take out threats.
Just keep upgrading things as you gain them, and you should be safe from raids throughout the game.
Second and Third Base
As you level up your Palbox (more on that below) you'll unlock the ability to create a second and third base. While you can place these wherever you want, it's worth creating one near a Sulfur deposit as you'll need that as a material later on. You can find Sulfur deposits in the desert, so finding a good one you like the location of is a wonderful idea.
You'll still want to keep other resources in mind too, and as you get further into the game, you'll also want to think about points of access. If security is your main concern, building a base somewhere high up, or even on a small island, can both be great ideas to protect you from potential raids. Just make sure you've got other bases around for resources collection too.
Base Levelling
One of the key driving forces when playing Palworld is to build up your base and level up your Palbox. Doing so allows you to add more Pals to your bases, and also have more bases set up at once, with that maxing out at 15 Pals and 3 Bases, although you can change the number of Pals in the world settings. With that out of the way.
