Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals is set five years after the events of Oxenfree and sees Riley Poverly returning to her hometown of Camena to investigate a series of mysterious and unnaturally occurring electromagnetic waves that have been causing interference with radio and electrical equipment across the coastal town.

But, what Riley finds along the way is far from what she bargained for as an entry-level Environmental Researcher, as she becomes entangled in a frightening, supernatural mystery that sees her confronting a local cult-like group known as Parentage, from opening a mysterious portal as they attempt to pull something out.

Do You Need to Have Played Oxenfree to Play Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals

In short, the answer is no. You do not need to have played Oxenfree to enjoy Oxenfree 2, as the game is designed to be a standalone experience. So, while Oxenfree 2 may be set in the same universe as the original game, it does feature a brand-new story and cast of characters.

However, there are some advantages to having played Oxenfree, as you’ll often catch references and Easter Eggs regarding the original game that are sometimes hinted at during story beats. So, we only recommend playing the original if you simply want to maximize your Oxenfree 2 experience.
