Secret Island Mushroom House: The Records House

After beating Bowser, a secret island with a Purple Mushroom House will become available to you. You can get there via a pipe. Inside the Mushroom House is a posterboard that tracks all of your statistics, including number of deaths, number of 1-ups from flagpoles, boost blocks jumped on, and even number of applauses!

Flag Pole Fireworks and Bonus Items

When completing a level, if the last two digits in the time remaining are the same number (I.E. 55, 33, 22) the level will end with 8-bit music and fireworks. The only exception is 00. After this, Toad will call out to you and Mario will walk past the goal to speak to Toad, who will give you an item. The different items you can get, are as follows;

Beat Underground Levels Easily

Certain Underground levels start off and end above ground. Often times these two areas are actually connected, but usually impossible to get to. However, if you have obtained a P-Acorn by catching Nabbit, you can fly up and over the wall and over to the Goal area. Examples of levels you can do this in are Acorn Plains-2 Tilted Tunnel and Layer-Cake Desert-2 Perilous Pokey Cave.

Save File Stars

You can get up to 5 Save File Stars by your profile. Here's how to get each star:

• Defeat Bowser in World 8.
• Complete Every Level through Peach's Castle, including all 12 Secret Levels.
• Get every Star Coin in the first 8 Worlds.
• Get every Star Coin in the SuperStar Road Levels 1-8. This will also unlock SuperStar Road Level 9.
• Completely clear Story Mode by:
  • Getting all Star Coins in SuperStar Road Level 9;*Catching Nabbit once in each of the first 7 Worlds;
  • Finding all 94 Flag Poles (i.e., all 82 normal exits and all 12 secret exits).

Penguin Suit and Propeller Suit

In Superstar Road you can pick up the Penguin Suit and Propeller Suit, both suits being from New Super Mario Bros Wii, from any of the four Mushroom Houses. These items are unavailable elsewhere in the game.

Infinite Mushroom Houses and Yoshis

Beat the game to unlock infinite Mushroom Houses and Yoshis on the map. They will appear in all of the locations on the map screen where they appeared previously, but will never go away.

Free Infinite Acorns and P-Acorns

Normally a lone Acorn appears on the map screen on one of the roads in Acorn Plains. This respawns often -- every few levels you beat. After you beat the game, this will become a P-Acorn!

Save Anywhere, Anytime

Normally you must beat a Secret Level, Fortress or Castle to be able to save your progress (Quick Save will allow you to "pause" your game when you turn it off). However, after you beat the game, press + on the Map Screen to use the unlocked Save Game feature and save anywhere you darn well please!
