Checklists
Freyslaug
Freyslaug is the second chapter in Hellblade 2, and it opens with Senua using the defeated slaver to locate the rest of the slaves taken by the Northmen. This chapter contains six collectibles alongside a few puzzles, and this walkthrough will guide you through the entire level.
A chapter select option is unlocked as soon as you reach Freyslaug, so you can exit to the main menu and replay the first chapter if you’d like. Chapter select also tells you how many collectibles are in each chapter.
Freyslaug Walkthrough
Walk over to the right as soon as you regain control of Senua. There’s a Lorestangir in the enclosed area near two homes. These posts can be tough to see because they blend into the environment and don’t glow until you approach them. We’ve circled this one in the image below.
From here, follow the slaver as he walks along the path. The bridge into the settlement ahead is broken, so you need to take a right to find another way inside. Follow the slaver through the graveyard until a scene plays. Enter the settlement through the broken boards once the slaver is tied up.
Walk through the door of the house on your left to proceed through the encampment. Approach the bridge at the other end of the camp and focus on the body parts that appear to trigger a puzzle.
You need to find three different symbols to get through this obstacle. The voices will let you know when you’re on the right track and nearing a solution.
Immediately turn left to make your way to the first symbol. Enter the house and climb the ladder inside to find the right elevation for this part of the puzzle. Look to your left and align the red sticks so that they create the symbol you’re looking for here. A giant version of the symbol will appear when you’re looking in the right spot, like in the image below.
Drop down the ledge in front of you and head back toward the camp entrance. You should see the red objects used for the next symbol in the distance. Align the pieces to look like the image below and focus on the shape to solve part two of this puzzle.
Turn around and walk through the second house on the right. There’s white chalk on the door, so you know it can be opened. You’ll see a crib and hear a baby crying if you’re in the right place.
Continue along this path on the right side of the camp to find the third symbol. Ignore the red sticks for now because you’re not at the correct angle to see the solution. Instead, walk through the house at the top of the hill and stay on the path. Align the red sticks and focus on them from above to find the third and final symbol.
Return to the bridge to start a kind of flashback for Senua, as the state of this camp reminds her of what happened to her home. Walk into the house at the end of the path and interact with the mirror on the table inside.
Keep this in mind because you need to fight right after that scene. These enemies hit hard and don’t have many openings unless you parry. However, dodging until the mirror glows is the safer option. Senua’s voices will tell you when your focus ability is ready – use it to gain an immediate advantage in combat. This sequence ends when you defeat the axe-wielding Northman.
Once the battle is over, walk forward as Senua remembers more from her past. You can finally cross the bridge when you return after the cutscene. Turn right after crossing the bridge, then interact with the white-chalk boards blocking the entrance to the large house.
Turn left as soon as you exit the house and take the path that leads back in the direction you came from. The voices will tell you a secret is nearby – you just have to find it. Crouch under the debris circled below to collect the second Lorestangir in Freyslaug.
Return to the main path in front of the large house and, this time, walk toward the lone torch directly in front of the house. This is where you’ll find the first Hidden Face collectible in Hellblade 2.
The voices will tell you to focus and look around to find the secret. Focus on the face carved into the stone behind the torch to reveal a hidden path. These paths always lead to a small tree that you also need to focus on.
Cross the next long bridge across from this torch to progress. Keep walking down the linear path as the voices speak to you. Eventually, you’ll reach a point of no return after a cutscene plays. Move through the narrow area and walk down to reach the man shown in the scene.
When you get to a branch in the path, turn left and climb up the ladder to find the third Lorestangir. You’ll hear a subtle audio cue as you approach the ladder to let you know you’re going the right way.
Climb back down the ladder and return to the main path after focusing on the collectible. Keep moving through the camp until you make it to the man Senua saw from above. This rescue doesn’t go as planned, so it’s time to fight your way through.
There are new attacks to watch out for here. Some enemies use throwing axes and others spit fire, so be prepared to dodge or block the axes while sidestepping avoiding the flames. Also, remember that you can use focus in combat to slow things down and assess the situation.
Enemies will come one after the other, each with their own combat flow and weapon type. Some are quicker than others, which means you can’t chain too many attacks together without being interrupted. Meanwhile, others use torches and flaming attacks to prevent you from blocking.
Eventually, an enemy who glows dark red will appear – the one in the image above. His attacks are initially unblockable, so dodge every move in his combo until an opening presents itself. Use the focus ability as soon as it’s ready to get as many hits in as you can while time is slowed down.
The draugar ritual will end as soon as you defeat the next enemy, allowing Senua and the stranger, Fargrimr, to escape the area. He explains that he was an offering to Illtauga, the supernatural being they just avoided.
Walk with Fargrimr until you reach a fork in the road. Take the path on the left to find the second and final Hidden Face in Freyslaug. We’ve circled the face in the image below.
Return to Fargrimr and follow him until another fork in the road appears. Take a left once again to find the fourth and final Lorestangir at the end of the path. That’s the final collectible in this chapter, so you can get through the rest without missing anything else.
Return to Fargrimr once more and follow him to the end of the path. He tells you that the wounded slave master’s name is Thorgestr, and you may not need him to find the location Senua is looking for. The next location in Senua’s quest is Raudholar (or Rau?hólar).
