Tytos Lannister was a former Lord of Casterly Rock, and father of Tywin Lannister.

Tytos was by all accounts a weak willed and gentle man, prone to forgive debts and to shy from conflict. During his lordship, the prestige of House Lannister suffered as loans were never repaid and vassals openly opposed orders. This culminated in a rebellion by the houses Reyne and Tarbeck, two of the most powerful families in The Westerlands.

Unable to stop it himself, Tytos floundered, and it looked like the rebellion would succeed. Tywin, despite being young at the time, ultimately took up his father's responsibilities and in a feat of tactical brilliance, was able to crush the rebels. To this day the Reynes of Castemere and the Tarbecks of Tarbeck Hall serve as reminders to those who would trifle with Tywin.
