Robert Baratheon
Robert Baratheon
Robert Baratheon, played by actor Mark Addy, became the King of Westeros after leading a rebellion, with the help of Ned Stark and Jon Arryn, against the "Mad King" Aerys Targaryen after the death of Ned's sister Lyanna at the hands of Aerys' son, Rhaegar. ?Now, 17 years later, Jon Arryn, acting as Robert's "Hand," died, making Robert ask his old friend ned Stark to take his place.
Robert has no taste or vision for ruling, instead living inside a bubble of wine and whores. ?He hopes Ned, who he beleives to be his last true friend, will rule for him while he continues to do as he pleases. ?Robert's marriage to Queen Cersei Baratheon is nothing short of a disaster as Robert was never able to love anyone after Lyanna, causing him to treat Cersei with disdain and disrespect. On their wedding night Robert said Lyanna's name to Cersei, an act which birthed Cersei's hate of Robert. Robert knows that two of Aerys' children, Viserys and Daenerys, managed to survive, and now live in exile. Once Robert learns that Daenerys is pregnant he wants her dead - a point that he and Ned disagree on, causing Ned to quit his role as "Hand." Robert orders the hit on Daenerys despite Ned's warning.
After Ned is seriously injured by Jaime Lannister, Robert reappoints him as "Hand" and takes off on a hunting trip. ?Robert returns mortally wounded after he drunkenly tried to kill a boar and got gored for his troubles. Cersei's cousin, Lancel Lannister, is suspected of keeping Robert overly-drunk with strong wine so that he'd get "accidentally" killed on the venture. ?
