Catelyn Stark
Catelyn Stark?(maiden name?Tully)?was the eldest daughter of?House Tully. She was married to Eddard Stark, and had five children: Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran, and Rickon.
Early Life and Marriage
Catelyn was the oldest child of Lord Hoster Tully and Lady Minisa Tully. ?She had a younger brother, Edmure, and a sister, Lysa.?
She was originally bethrothed to Brandon Stark, but he was killed alongside his father, Rickon Stark, by the Mad King, Aerys II Targaryen. Instead, Catelyn married Brandon's younger brother, Eddard Stark. Together, they had five children, and resided in Winterfell, where Eddard was Lord Paramount of the North.
Catelyn had a strained relationship with Eddard's Bastard son?Jon Snow, who she sees as a reminder of her husband's infidelity.
Traveling to King's Landing
Roughly a decade after Eddard returned from fighting in the Greyjoy Rebellion, a raven arrived at Winterfell with news that Jon Arryn had died. King Robert Baratheon had decided to name Eddard to Hand of the King, and was riding north to Winterfell.
Catelyn and her family receive the king, and at the welcoming feast, Catelyn learns that Robert plans to marry his eldest son, Joffrey Baratheon, to her eldest daughter, Sansa. Shortly after the feast, Catelyn's son Bran falls from a tower at Winterfell, and falls into a coma. Sitting by his side as he recovers, Catelyn foils an assassination attempt on her son. Later, she finds blonde hair in the tower that Bran fell from, placing suspicion on the Lannister family who had visited alongside the king.?
Following Bran's recovery, Catelyn and Ser Rodrik travel to King's Landing to tell Eddard of her suspicions. Catelyn enlists the aid of Petyr Baelish, who reveals that a dagger used in the assassionation attempt used to belong to Tyrion Lannister.?
The Crossroads Inn
On her way back to Winterfell, Catelyn and Ser Rodrik stop at the Crossroads Inn, where they encounter Tyrion Lannister. Catelyn calls on several knights who were also present to arrest Tyrion, and takes him to the Vale, where her sister Lysa resides as Lady of the Eyrie.
At the Eyrie, Tyrion is released after winning a trial by combat, and Catelyn learns that her husband had been arrested in King's Landing. She departs, riding north to meet her son Robb, who is marching an army south. Shortly thereafter, news arrives that Eddard had been executed, and open war is declared.
The War of the Five Kings
During much of the ensuing conflict, Catelyn accompanies Robb as one of his advisors, later traveling as his representative to meet with Renly Baratheon. At Renly's camp, Catelyn witnesses Renly's assassination, and in the aftermath, Brienne of Tarth pledges her loyalty to Catelyn.?
Catelyn returns to where Robb's army is camped, where she decides to release Jaime Lannister in the hopes of exchanging him for her daughters, who she believes are being held prisoner in King's Landing. She later attends a funeral for her father, Hoster Tully, who had passed away from natural causes.?
The Red Wedding
In the later days of the war, Catelyn attends a marriage between her brother, Edmure Tully, and Roslin Frey, meant to mend an alliance between House Stark and House Frey.
At this wedding, Catelyn and her family are betrayed and attacked. Catelyn is killed by Black Walder, who slits her throat.?
