Chapter Four
It seems like with all the chaos going on around Spira, the Gullwings have come up with a plan to try to unite the people, a concert! Yup, Yuna is going to put on a concert, in the Thunder Plains of all places. But you need to convince everyone to come to your concert, and that includes the people from New Yevon and the Youth League. That's going to be quite the chore, isn't it? Chapter 4 represents the end of most of your freedom that you've enjoyed in the game thus far. Chapter 5 is a little better in this regard, but if you want to finish up everything in the game, we suggest that you do it before Chapter 4 starts. Raid the engine room again too.
Using the Commsphere
If you happened to visit every area of Spira in Chapter 3, you'll have the great opportunity to visit all of these areas without leaving the comfort of the Celsius, thanks to Shinra's Commspheres. He installs these little cameras whenever you visit an area in Chapter 3. If you did not visit an area, then he does not install one. Some of these cameras may not work at times, but they for the most part do, so take the opportunity to look.

Once you start Chapter 4, head up to speak to Paine on the deck of the Celsius. Then after your conversation, go speak to Shinra on the Bridge. Choose to look at the Commspheres and you will be able to visit some areas. There are only four that are operational from the beginning. These are for Besaid Island, Kilika Island, Mushroom Rock Road, and Bevelle. Those locations will provide you with quite a bit of cutscenes that will fill in some of the story for you. There are other locations that also grant you some scenes, but the vast majority of them will either be non-functional or have nothing useful for you to use, at least not at the moment anyway.
Once you are finished looking at the Commspheres, speak to Buddy and you'll get a rundown of the mission ahead of you. After that, talk to Shinra again and look at the Commspheres once more, as a lot of them will have new content for you to view. Remember, watching these Commspheres actually progress your story completion rating, so make sure to view every location at every opportunity you get. The most important one that you will want to watch is the Commsphere on the Mi'ihen Highroad. Visiting this Commsphere will activate a sidequest, known as Rin's Investigation.
Rin's Investigation
Rin's Travel Agency has asked Yuna for her help in solving the mystery behind the machinas going berserk on the High Road. If you happened to visit this location in Chapter 2 or 3, you'll understand what's going on. Basically, Rin wants you to switch between the seven cameras (or 8 if Shinra dropped a commsphere in Newroad North) he has setup along the Highroad in an effort to catch the culprit and bring him or her to justice. The controls for the camera are easy enough, and they're given to you on the screen. Your mission is to look for weird or suspicious activity in every area, and then call on Rin so that he may begin an investigation of the area. What constitutes suspicious activity? Usually if you see a person or an object that's moving on the screen that means something is wrong.
There are 5 possible suspects you can pin the blame to in Chapter 5 -- Chocobo Eater, Rikku, Calli, Prophet and Rin himself. You can add new people to your list of suspects depending on your actions throughout the game. If you are aiming for an Episode Complete in this area then make sure that either Rikku, Calli or the Chocobo Eater is named as the culprit. Otherwise, you will have to settle with an Episode Concluded instead.
Blaming Rikku also gives you the Ragnarok accessory as a bonus while pinning Rin gives you the Gippal Sphere. The Chocobo Eater is the easiest to blame out of the five suspects so focus your attention on him (or it) if you want a guaranteed episode completion for Mi'ihen Highroad. Check the Mi'ihen Mystery section of this guide for more information.
Saving Tobli
The Gullwings decide that they need the services of Tolbi in order to pull off a great concert, so head over to the Moonflow in order to find him. You'll notice that Tobli has somehow ended up on the same boat as O'aka, being on the run from debt collectors. Just chase him along with the rest of the pack. This mission is actually quite simple. All you have to do is follow Tobli and his pursuers wherever they go. Eventually, they will head back into the Moonflow where you'll have some guy run past you.

Follow him and you will end up back where you started this mission - then you'll have to go back to the Moonflow. Tolbi has escaped again, but you can ride the Shoopuf across the Moonflow to follow him. Go towards Guadosalam and you will find him once again. Walk into the entrance of Guadosalam where you will encounter Tobli and his troop of Hypellos. After a short conversation, he will agree to help you and reward you with the Black Tabard Garment Grid for your trouble. Mission complete!
Celsius Cabin
After rescuing Tobli, go back to Shinra on the Celsius and view all of the Commspheres again. Visit every location you can in order to increase your story completion rating. Once you have done this, head over to the Cabin and meet up with Rikku. It's time for Yuna to start practicing for her concert! You only get one shot at this mini-game, so make it count! All you have to do is press the buttons according to what's on Rikku's side of the screen. It's sort of like Dance Dance Revolution, but somewhat easier. The higher score, the better your chances of getting a better accessory.
After your rehearsal head back to the Bridge and speak to Shinra for some more new scenes via the Commsphere network. This time around, every location has something new, so make sure to take the time and look through all of them. For some fun, check out Mount Gagazet's hot springs, as you will see just about everyone there relaxing before the big concert!
Thunder Plains
Before you can start your concert on the Thunder Plains, you're going to have to deal with a little monster problem that's popped up. A giant dragon has appeared on the plains, and for the sake of having everyone not eaten, it's up to YRP to go and take out the bad guy. Follow the red icon to the lair of the dragon, and then enter the dungeon. When you enter the dungeon, head left, and grab the treasure chests. You'll need to climb up to the middle route, which is used to find the dragon. It is time for a fight!
Boss Battle - Zalamander
Enemy | HP | MP | Drop | Steal |
---|---|---|---|---|
Zalamander | 12850 | 276 | Crimson Ring | Sublimator |
This enemy is a lot like the Flame Dragon in Besaid way back in Chapter 1. In fact, it's exactly the same, only this time he's a lot stronger. However, since this boss is immune to status change effects, Warrior is almost useless in this fight. Using a songstress to cast Darkness Dance does work in helping to cancel out most of his physical attacks. Our stragegy is to have a songstress, a dark knight, and White Mage. Casting Protect is a great way to reduce the amount of damage done by his physical attacks. Additionally, having NulFire and Fire Eating accessories helps to eliminate his Flame Breath attack.
Once you have defeated this boss, you'll be back on the airship. It's almost time for the concert, so talk to Shinra, and then talk to Tobli. Enjoy the wonderfully created FMV sequence. After the cutscene, you'll talk with Maechen on the Celsius. Once he has finished talking, head to the engine room to find the Leblanc Syndicate waiting for you. Leblanc will personally hand over the Crimson Sphere 5 to you. Once you have talked with Leblanc, head to the Bridge and speak to Shinra. Chapter 4 complete.
