Elden Ring Colosseum Guide - Locations, Modes, and Tips
The Colosseum update has been released alongside Patch 1.08 for Elden Ring. These new PVP combat trials can be found throughout The Lands Between, in Limgrave, Caelid, and Leyndell. Each Colosseum has its own set of rules. Will you seek out each Colosseum and conquer all the combat trials?
On this page of IGN's Elden Ring wiki guide, you can learn more about what are the Colosseums in Elden Ring, where to find the Colosseums, and which PVP modes are located at each Colosseum.
What Are the Colosseums in Elden Ring?
The Colosseums are arenas in the world of Elden Ring in which you can participate in unique PVP modes. Each of the three Colosseums has different PVP modes available to participate in.
Some of these PVP modes require teamplay, while others allow you to duel solo, or even brawl it out in a free-for-all Tarnished arena.
Elden Ring Colosseum Locations
There are three Colosseums scattered throughout The Lands Between:
How to Access the Colosseum Arenas
Once you arrive at any of the three Colosseums in Elden Ring, you will now be able to open the large doorways and enter the chamber within. Access to the arena itself isn't possible by yourself - rather, you'll have to be summoned into one.
Inside each Colosseum chamber is a large Statue of Marika, and you can interact with it to enter Colosseum Combat. This will bring up a menu for the specific location and let you choose the available parameters - including how many players you want to fight with/against, and if you want to create a password so only your friends can join.
After interacting with at least one Colosseum, a new Marika Effigy will appear back in the Roundtable Hold. You will then be able to interact with this statue located near the fireplace to access the Colosseum options for any venue that you have visited so far.
Limgrave Colosseum - Location and PvP Modes
The Limgrave Colosseum is the first PvP arena you can reach, as it is located in West Limgrave, the starting region in Elden Ring. You'll find it far to the north, and over to the east of Stormveil Castle, on the other side of the large bridge. A road runs north from the Warmaster's Shack Site of Grace right to the Colosseum.
The Limgrave Colosseum includes the following parameters and combat options:
- Combat Formats: United Combat / Combat Ordeal
- Number of Combatants: 2 / 4 / 6 Players
- Spirit Ashes are prohibited in this arena
Leyndell Royal Colosseum - Location and PvP Modes
The Royal Colosseum is one of the high level PvP arenas you can find, and is located inside the Royal Capital dungeon of Leyndell, in the Altus Plateau region. It be found in the far south of the Legacy Dungeon after following the West Ramparts Site of Grace south along the main path, and up the winding road to where the arena is perched.
There are a few enemies you will find along the path, the most notable being two Duelists near the entrance to the Colosseum.
Unlike the other arenas, the Royal Colosseum only allows one type of PvP mode with strict rules, and has a smaller arena to match its confined settings:
- Combat Formats: Duel
- Number of Combatants: 2 Players
- Spirit Ashes are prohibited in this arena
Caelid Colosseum - Location and PvP Modes
The Caelid Colosseum is one of the high level PvP arena you can reach later in the game, and is located in the Dragonblight region of Caelid. You'll find it perched along the northern central coast at the end of a large gorge - which can be reached by exploring the depths of Siofra River to find a well lift into the gorge.
The Caelid Colosseum provides the largest of all three arenas, and includes the following parameters and combat options:
- Combat Formats: Duel / United Combat / Combat Ordeal
- Number of Combatants: 2 / 4 / 6 Players
- Spirit Ashes are allowed in this arena
United Combat
A deathmatch-style combat trial, in which two teams (2v2 or 3v3) must duke it out during a timed battle for 300 seconds. Players respawn after being killed, but each player you kill earns your team a point. By the end of the match, the team with the most kills, and therefore the most points, wins. Usage of your Flask for both Crimson and Cerulean Tears is permitted - though in reduced capacity, and the ability to summon Spirit Ashes is not available at the Limgrave Colosseum.
Combat Ordeal
Throw yourself into a Tarnished free-for-all arena battle. Players will have 300 seconds to compete at victory. If you die in the Combat Ordeal you will respawn, but only the combatant with the highest number of kills under their belt will claim victory when the timer runs out. Usage of your Flask for both Crimson and Cerulean Tears is permitted - though in reduced capacity, and the ability to summon Spirit Ashes is not available at the Limgrave Colosseum.
Duel Mode
Unlocked in the Royal Colloseum in Leyndell, this mode has strict guidelines. In a 1 v 1 setting, two players have 180 seconds to defeat their opponent - and the first one to kill the other wins. Using the Flask of Crimson Tears and Spirit Ashes are prohibited, although a small amount of the Flask of Cerulean Tears is allowed.
Can You Play the Colosseum With Friends?
Yes, you can participate in the Colosseum with your friends in Elden Ring by using a group password. This group feature can be used to team up or duel against your friends in the Colosseum PVP challenges.
Colosseum Tips and Tricks

- Since the team battles and free-for-alls let you respawn continually, you can sometime afford to be a bit more reckless - as long as it nets you a kill in the process. Diving head first without a second thought and repeatedly dying won't do much for your overall score, so at least try and make it worthwhile.
- When you respawn, you'll automatically blast back anyone nearby, so you won't worry too much about getting camped. This also means if you see someone respawning next to you - give them some space quickly or prepare to get knocked off your feet!
- Note that the winner is decided by the overall kill count when the match concludes - and only that. How much damage you deal isn't measured, only who scores the killing blow, so don't be afraid to be opportunistic! Swap your targets around to see who is low on health, or otherwise distracted, and try to ambush them for the finishing stroke before their opponent can score.
- In large free for all battles, chaos can reign if you have the right spells and abilities. Large flashy destruction skills that would otherwise be easily dodged and take many opponents by surprise if they don't see you coming, so try and get behind a group and attack with big splash damage from their blind spots.
- Similarly, if you're fighting in a large battle, try to keep as many of your opponents in line of sight as possible - stick to the outer edges and look inwards to see where everyone else is at, and if someone is missing, they may just be ready to attack from behind. Utilize lock on to swap targets or sweep your camera around when turning targeting off to do a quick look.
- While it's tempting to use the same old Spirit Ashes you've used for every boss (Looking at you Mimic Tear and Black Knife Tiche), don't feel like you can't experiment with summoning enemies that humans may have more problems with than AI bosses. If you have the Glovewort to rank up a few, try messing with summoning spirits that can keep your opponents off-balance, like the horde of Greatshield Soldiers, a Man-Serpent, or even a horde of Rats! More chaos can often lead to your human opponent panicking, letting you finish them off.
- Duels is a very specific mode that doesn't allow for your healing flask - but they don't say anything about your Flask of Wondrous Physick - or spell heals for that matter. If you can, bring every edge you've got to come out on top.
