All Larval Tear Locations
Larval Tears are some of the most important resources in Elden Ring. They’re limited, they let you respec your character, and they’re not so easy to acquire. Some require tough battles, while others are hidden away in late-game or side quest-related areas. But fear not: we can help you track them all down with this guide.
To use Larval Tears, you'll first need to defeat Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon in the Academy of Raya Lucaria. Once you defeat Rennala, she’ll remain seated in her library. Simply speak to her and offer up a Larval Tear to start respeccing, allowing you to redistribute any of the stat increases you’ve gained over the course of the game. If you don’t go through with the changes, you can back out without actually spending the tear.
List of Larval Tears
Below you'll find a list of each of the 18 Larval Tears that can be found in a single playthrough:
Limgrave Larval Tear
This Larval Tear can be found early in the region of West Limgrave where you begin the game. From the Agheel Lake South Site of Grace, take a few steps southeast to find a group of Wandering Nobles. One of them is not what it seems, and can be spotted on a slightly higher ledge, and is the only enemy that stands alone as opposed to the small groups of nobles.
Take him out, then prepare for round two, because he’ll transform into a Lesser Runebear after going down. Defeat the Runebear to claim the Larval Tear.
Siofra River Larval Tear
Right next to the Minor Erdtree in East Limgrave is the Siofra River Well, and you can take the lift inside to head way down into the underground portion of the map. There’s a merchant down here along the Siofra River, seated into the aqueduct west of the Worshipper's Woods Site of Grace up a ladder and behind a waterfall. He has one Larval Tear in stock, and it’ll cost you 3,000 Runes.
Liurnia Larval Tear 1
You can find a few Larval tears in the region of Liurnia of the Lakes. The first Larval Tear can be found at the Village of the Albinaurics, located far into West Liurnia under a giant mountain where the Moonlight Altar is.
Upon reaching the village, Head under the stone bridge past where Nepheli is first found to an area just to the east of the Site of Grace, and you'll find the Larval Tear by a group of stone coffins on a ledge overlooking the nearby rope bridge - beware the large amount of crawling Albinaurics that can come over the ledge to ambush you.
Liurnia Larval Tear 2
Another Larval Tear in the southwest area of North Liurnia comes from another disguised enemy. Start from the Boilprawn Shack Site of Grace and head northwest. You'll find a stone gazebo is a group of giant Crayfish, and one that’s walking around just a bit further northwest toward the Rose Church.
These things can be tough enough on their own, but once this giant crayfish is defeated, it’ll transform into a nasty Grafted Scion like the one found in Stormveil Castle. Once you manage to take the mimic's new form down, it’ll drop another tear.
Liurnia Larval Tear 3
One of two Larval Tears accessible after clearing Caria Manor in the far part of North Liurnia, and defeating Royal Knight Loretta. This opens up the all-important Three Sisters area.
There are some cliffs northeast of Seluvis’ Rise that you can drop down right onto a roof of the large Caria Manor building. Follow the path down to reach an upper section of the manor you couldn’t get to before above the Manor Lower Level Site of Grace. Up here you’ll find Pidia, a servant of the manor. He sells a single Larval Tear for 3,000 Runes.
Liurnia Larval Tear 4
While this Larval Tear is technically located in North Liurnia on the other side of Caria Manor, you need to make a pitstop on the eastern side of the lake where the Artist's Shack is, at the top of the hill northwest of the Carian Study Hall. You need to touch the Resurrection painting here for the next tear to become available.
Once you do, return to the Three Sisters and exit to the northeast to hook around the northern walls of the manor. This leads to the graveyard, where you can find the spot depicted in the painting. If you touch this ghost on its chair, it’ll grant you a few items, including the Larval Tear.
Caelid Larval Tear
Caelid has just one Larval Tear to acquire, and it comes from a transforming enemy. There’s a Wandering Noble by the group of coffins south of the Caelid Highway South Site of Grace, and west of the Cathedral of Dragon Communion. While there are many Wandering Nobles here, this one can be found on the far west end, and is the only one wearing a feathered cap.
Kill the Wandering Noble, and he’ll turn into a bigger, much tougher Troll, who wield a giant flaming sword. This makes him a lot tougher than most Trolls, so engage him carefully. When the giant goes down, it’ll grant you a tear.
Nokron, Eternal City Larval Tear 1
The next five tears are all found in Nokron, Eternal City. But before you can get there, note that you will have to defeat Starscourge Radahan at Redmane Castle. Once you do so, his gravity magic will cease, sending a meteor crashing down and opening a giant pit just west of Fort Haight in East Limgrave.
Carefully drop down the floating rocks there, and you’ll find yourself inside the first Eternal City. From the first Site of Grace, head down the steps outside and make a right, and enter this building. A body inside is holding your first Larval Tear in this area.
Nokron, Eternal City Larval Tear 2
A second Larval Tear can be found close to the first one early in Nokron, before reaching the first boss of this area. There’s another body in a gazebo overlooking the bridge to the boss arena holding another tear. Just watch out for the Silver Tear blobs that are guarding it that will drop from above.
Nokron, Eternal City Larval Tears 3 and 4
Just a little further along this path in Nokron is the famous Mimic Tear boss fight, and winning that will get you two more Larval Tears as prizes. Remember that you can easily cheese this fight by walking in without any gear equipped, waiting for the Mimic Tear to spawn, then quickly arming yourself in the menu as it approaches. Its loadout is copied from yours when it spawns, so use that to your advantage.
Nokron, Eternal City Larval Tear 5
As you continue through Nokron, you can descend into an area full of Silver Tears known as Night’s Sacred Ground. The Fingerslayer Blade, which is a key item in Ranni the Witch’s questline, lies at the end of this path.
Along the way, you’ll be attacked by a giant Silver Sphere when dropping down into a large room's main floor, where two Nox Swordstresses lie in wait. While the sphere won’t morph into anything else, it can be a giant pain. Kite it to the doorway if you have to, and it’ll drop another tear whenever you defeat it.
Altus Plateau Larval Tear
The region of the Altus Plateau also has its own Mimic. There’s a set of ruins along the eastern ridge of the Altus Plateau that borders the Capital Outskirts, north of the Rampartside Path Site of Grace, and while there are a few Wandering Nobles along the road scavenging, there is one stay noble inside the ruins cowering in a corner.
This lone enemy transforms into one of the Bladed Lions seen in Stormveil and Redmane Castle, and is incredibly fast and vicious, tearing down the walls of the ruins as it attacks. Defeat it for another tear.
Mt. Gelmir Larval Tear
Mt. Gelmir has its own Mimic that can drop a Larval Tear, specifically close by the Road of Iniquity Site of Grace below the Volcano Manor. Head down the path below the manor to the east near the Minor Erdtree to find a lone putrid flaming zombie in front of a large bonfire, surrounded by the hanged bodies of trolls.
Killing this solo zombie will result in it transforming into a giant Wormface enemy. These foes are both large and dangerous as they spew Death Blight all around them that can instantly kill you if you let it build up. Take it out carefully or at range to win a Larval Tear.
Nokstella, Eternal City Larval Tear 1
As with Nokron, Nokstella, Eternal City also has its share of Larval Tears. Give Ranni that Fingerslayer Blade from the Night’s Sacred Ground, and she’ll open up Renna’s Rise in the Three Sisters. The teleport at the top will send you to Ainsel River Main, and following the stream will eventually bring you to Nokstella.
The first of three large Silver Sphere enemies is located on the first main bridge in the city, and will drop a Larval Tear when defeated.
Nokstella, Eternal City Larval Tear 2
Just past the bridge with the first Silver Sphere enemy in Nokstella, there’s another Silver Sphere that will drop from the ceiling in a building on the right. Don’t get crushed when it falls -- or during the fight, for that matter.
Nokstella, Eternal City Larval Tear 3
The last Silver Sphere in Nokstella is in a large building, at the peak of the city leading to the last bridge to a miniboss Swordstress with two Silver Tear allies. This one drops from the ceiling as well but farther back in the room hidden away, and it’ll spawn in additional electrified Silver Tears to make the battle tougher.
Consecrated Snowfield Larval Tear
The final collectible Larval Tear is located in the Consecrated Snowfield region, a highly dangerous, hidden, endgame area. To reach this secret region, you'll need to halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion - one is given by Albus the Albinuaric in West Liurnia's Village of the Albinaurics, and the other in the Mountaintops of the Giants' Castle Sol dungeon.
Once you have both, you can activate the Grand Lift of Rold to take you to the hidden region, by way of a small hidden dungeon. Get through the next tunnel to finally reach the Consecrated Snowfield.
There’s a frustrating low visibility in parts of this area, so it's highly recommended you reach the Inner Consecrated Snowfield Site of Grace by the frozen river, and then head up a slight slope to the southeast. With better visibility for a moment, you can spot a small group of Wandering Nobles trying to free one buried in the snow. The one in the snow will transform into another Runebear upon defeat, but will be much tougher than the Mimic Limgrave. Defeat it, and you'll earn a Larval Tear.
