Play It Safe Walkthrough
Having received Takemura's phone call, return to the Japantown Market and speak with him in the same location that you previous met in Gimme Danger.Having learned that Takemura has altered the data regarding the parade, take the shard and listen as he explains one final time the mission specifics.
Reach the First Sniper
After a short conversation regarding Oda, time will shift and the parade will have just begun. To kick off the mission, begin making your way across the footbridge as you follow on the waypoint to the first sniper. After crossing the footbridge, look for the large metal staircase and climb it to the top. From here, push through the crowd and continue down the path until you reach a large double door. Enter the door look for the red trip laser that's running across the path. You will have two options, you can opt to disable the laser or simply jump over it.
At the end of the path, you will also find a computer that you can hack and breach.
Next to the computer, climb the ladder that leads to the floor above, where you will need to sneak towards the billboard in order to not draw attention.Pull yourself up to the billboard's platform and neutralize the sniper with a stealth attack.
Reach the Second Sniper
To reach the second sniper, turn around and follow the waypoint marker up a nearby ledge. Follow the path and you'll find an elevator that you can take to the balcony of the 21st floor.
As you exit the elevator, Johnny will appear on the balcony, speak with him to learn a little more information on the man responsible for taking him out. From here, climb the nearby ladder at the end of the balcony and make your way across the catwalk. As you begin to make your way across, a large section of the walkway will collapse and fall to the ground below. In order to continue, you will need to sprint and jump across the gap - while it may seem impossible, with a decent run up you'll have no issues making the jump. Continue forward and jump down the small ledge, where you will find an exit hatch on the floor - open it and climb down.
From here, continue following the spiraling path downwards. Along the way you, you will encounter several patrolling drones, be sure to quickhack and disable these temporarily in order to bypass them without being spotted. As you near the bottom floor, you'll come across a guard blocking a door that leads to the second sniper. With patience, watch his path and wait for him to stop and lean on the railing, before striking with a deadly silent attack. With the guard taken care of, continue through to the next room. It's important that you take note of the trip laser that runs across your path. Using your hacking skills (should you have the required attribute level) or simply just over the laser in order to bypass it.With the bomb being avoided, sneak through to the next room and silently take out the second sniper as his focus is on the area outside. You will also find several shards in the room, along with a hackable computer that requires level 6 in the Intelligence attribute.
Reach the Third Sniper
Once you have neutralized the second sniper, continue through the double doors. As you'd expect, you'll encounter another trip laser - either disable it or jump over it in order to continue.
From here, climb the staircase and take out the soldier guarding the floor above. You can take him out silently when he leans out the window. The same can be done for the guard on the floor above as well. It's important to remain quiet and unseen during these takedowns, otherwise the patrolling drones outside will be alerted to your location. If you're after some extra loot, be sure to hack the computer that can be found along the wall - you will need level 6 intelligence in order to breach it.
With the guards dealt with, continue down the corridor and take out the soldier that's patrolling the balcony area. You'll have the best luck taking him down when he's leaning over the edge.
It's now time to cross over the other side! To do this, climb down onto the footbridge below, but before you go rushing over, be sure to only cross when there are no floats nearby as you'll be cooked by their reactors if you are caught underneath while they are passing.
Having safely made it across, begin climbing and jumping up the large vents and platforms until you reach the top ledge.
Once you reach the top, you'll encounter two guards - with both looking in opposite directions. You'll have the choice to either take them down one-by-one without being seen or simply bypassing them all together as you sneak past them - the choice is up to you.
With the situation dealt with, use the elevator and continue to the upper construction floor. When exiting the elevator sneak up the crouched over guard and neutralize them. Just like before, continue climbing up the large vents, platforms, and staircases until you reach a ladder that leads to a footbridge.
Before you go climbing the ladder, it is highly recommended that you disable the drones above with your quickhack, as they'll quickly become a problem once you reach the platform above. With the drones offline, quickly climb the ladder and jump through the second window.
Without making too much noise, avoid any mines and disable (or jump over) any trip lasers as you make your way towards the third and final sniper by the first window.
Reach the Netrunner
With all three snipers neutralized, follow the waypoint marker and use the elevator to reach the Foyer on the 30th floor. Before you enter the Foyer, you'll have the option to lean over the edge of the balcony and listen to the music as the floats travel by - it's a nice peaceful moment before your toughest boss encounter yet!
When you're ready to continue, enter the foyer and jack the Netrunner out. This action will cause Oda to appear and the boss battle to begin.
How to Defeat Oda
Oda is arguably one of the most challenging bosses you will encounter during the main storyline due to his many different styles of attack.
In order to be successful in the battle, here is a break down on his different attacks and how you can take advantage of them.
Mantis Blades: The Mantis Blades are arguably one of Oda's most damaging attacks. However, the attack looks much more than intimidating than it actually is, especially if you know how to avoid taking the majority of the damage. In order to take advantage of this attack, be sure to continually be moving and dodging around the room when he charges at you. By dodging, whether this is simply up and down or side to side, you will find that Oda will struggle to hit you - making his incoming fast attack much less damaging. continually dodge around the room and without stopping. Even more so, Oda will eventually take a breather after launching several repeated attacks with his blades. Use this breather to launch as much of your arsenal in his direction as possible.
- Smart SMG: Oda's Smart SMG has the ability to launch homing bullets in your direction. In order to counter these bullets, be sure to hide behind cover - the corner of the walls is a great option!
- Optical Camo: When it comes to Oda's Optical Camo, it's hard to argue just how dangerous this particular attack can be. Without reacting in time, Oda has the ability to restore his entire health - making the battle even more challenging as your weapon ammunition will surely be running low. After dealing significant amounts of damage, be sure to keep a close eye on Oda as you follow him to his potential hiding locations. You can prevent Oda from healing during these situations by simply dealing damage to him.
- Mobility: It's no secret that Oda's fast - really fast in fact. Throughout the battle you'll often find Oda dashing and warping around the room in a matter of seconds. You may even find that he frequently dodges, making it hard to land shots on him.
Along with the counter attacks above, we found that both Quickhacking and Grenades were another great way to lower his health. When selecting your grenades, we suggest using something that provides a stun effect as you'll want to keep Oda in stationary locations as much as possible.
Using the Weapon Glitch and Cyberware Malfunction quickhacking options are also highly recommended as the Weapon Glitch will allow V to stop Oda's Smart SMG from firing his homing bullets. Whereas the Cyberware Malfunction, as it will instantly disable Oda's Oni Mask, which will allow you to fire Smart Weapons at him for a brief period of time.
Kill or Keep Oda Alive - Play it Safe Choices and Consequences
Once you have defeat Oda, you will have the choice to either kill him or spare his life.
Choosing to spare his life will effect his appearance in one of the games final missions. While the choice is entirely up to you, it is worth noting that his appearance is very minor and does not effect the story's outcome in any way.
Escape the Parade Grounds
Having made up your mind, finish by connecting to the Access Point by the Netrunner. Watch the camera feed from Hanako's computer and wait for Takemura to make his move. With things turning south, escape the parade grounds by following the waypoint marker through the nearby double doors and working your way down to the street level.
