Checklists
The Renegade
The third episode of Battleborn is called The Renegade. It's best to use a Battleborn Hero that specializes in melee attacks and close quarter combat. A great option early on in the game is Rath.
This mission involves a lot of base defense. Collect as many shards as you can without spending them on gear. A small group of Thrall will be near the starting point. Take them all out and pick up all shard clusters in the area.
Power Plant 1
Follow the path until you reach a power station. Clear out the area of Thrall before collecting more shards from the small, red boxes. Set up a defensive position by building stinger or thumper turrets at two positions. If you have more shards, built an inferno or temporal trap near the base. When you're ready, stand on the base to start the waves.
You will need to survive three waves of enemies with a few seconds to rest in between each. Stay near the defense core and protect it as much as possible. If the defense core's health meter fully drains, you will fail the entire mission. On the third wave, you will fight Thrall Enforcer Captain Mancy. The Captain will use a large machine gun to deal damage far away. If you're using a melee attacking Battleborn, as was recommended, try to stay behind him and deal damage to prevent getting thrown with his melee attack. Don't forget to keep the turrets up, as well.
The door to the south will open up after clearing all three waves. Follow the path up to the power plant facility.
Power Plant 2
There will be three turrets and a number of Thrall guarding the power plant's entrance. This part will be tough if you have a Battleborn that specializes in melee attacks. Stick close to the rocks to get in their blind spots, and try to destroy the turrets one by one as you get nearby. If you have the shards, rebuild them into stinger and thumper turrets to take out any Thrall.
The next step is to enter the facility. There are two entrances on the left and right sides of the base. There will be more Thrall inside along with an inferno trap. Do not go running in or you will take a lot of damage. If possible, use long range attacks or your ultimate skill to quickly destroy the trap.
Secure the power plant and build two more turrets to protect the core. Remember to open chests and destroy the shard boxes to get more power ups and shards. There are multiple levels in this area. You can quickly get around the area by stepping on the white jump pads to launch yourself into the air. When you feel the base has enough defenses, stand next to the defense core to start the enemy assault.
Like the first power plant, you must defend the core from three waves of enemies. As the waves continue, stronger enemies will come to fight. If you see a warp anchor close by, try to destroy it quickly before more enemies come into the fight. However, if you're afraid of enemies getting close to the defense core, it may be best to defend it instead of going out to attack. You will fail the mission if the core is destroyed. On the final wave, Thrall Enforcer Captain Trox will come in. He acts the same as the captain from the last station, so use the same tactics as before.
After protecting the base from the three waves, the door to the northwest will open to the next part of the map. You must cross a long bridge guarded by Thrall. A number of warp anchors will launch onto the ground, allowing more Thrall to spawn into the fight. Quickly destroy these anchors to reduce their numbers, then focus your attention on the remaining Thrall. The building up ahead is the Peacekeeper Headquarters.
Peacekeeper Headquarters
A massive number of Thrall will be guarding the Peacekeepers HQ. Clear them out one by one from the inside and outside, and don't forget to pick up as many shards as possible. Check your mini-map for the large shard crystals that will give you a massive amount of shards. Use these to build a ton of turrets and traps around the base. You can also build an attack drone at the drone nodes to attack the enemies, or build a repair drone to repair your turrets and traps.
Once you believe your base is heavily fortified, stand near the core to begin the defense game. Like before, you must defend the core from three waves of enemies. If the core is destroyed, you will fail the mission. At this point it's probably best to stay near the core instead of going out to fight. When you get some down time between waves, quickly check your traps and turrets. If it seems like a wave won't end but enemies aren't coming to fight, check your mini-map for red dots. An enemy may be stuck somewhere on the map.
After the third wave, you will face Jailer Hylis. This boss will have a protective shield on him at the start of the battle. Kill the Thrall generating this shield to make Jailer Hylis vulnerable to your attacks. Don't worry, Caldarius will be helping you in this battle, and you won't have to protect the core. Focus your attention on the boss as much as possible. Other than the shield and massive amount of health, he's not that much tougher than the other captains you've already fought throughout the episode. Either attack from afar or try to dodge his melee attacks. Be careful when fighting outside. His melee attack may send you over the edge of the cliffs to your death. Defeat Hylis to clear the mission.
