Checklists
The Heliophage
The eighth episode of Battleborn's story mode is called The Heliophage. This majority of this mission is timed. Use the Battleborn Hero you're most comfortable with. You will need to push through enemy lines and clear areas filled with enemies.
Mellka and Deande will help you clear the first area of Varelsi. Once the area is secure, two side paths will open up. You will have 23 minutes to destroy two shield shards.
Temple District Shard
The path to the left will lead to the Temple District Shard. You cannot defeat all the Thrall along the way, so don't even try. Push forward until you come to a dead end. Fight and kill as many Thrall as you can around the skull marker on the mini-map. Eventually, the doors further into the Temple District will open.
Push further into the Temple District until you reach the shard. You may need to fight a few more waves of Thrall and Varelsi before the next set of doors will open. The shard in the temple cannot be broken with your own weapons. The first thing you'll need to do is unlock the shard. To do this, stand on the yellow shard pad between the jump pads, which is near the shard crystal.
With the shard unlocked, you must maintain a secure site for the next objective. Simply kill all enemies within the area until the objective on the right side of the screen says 3/3. Things will go much more smoothly if you build some traps and turrets at the build nodes. Remember to use all skills in your arsenal to survive. If your health gets too low, try to find some crates to get more health or other power ups. You can also use the jump pads to move around the area and avoid damage.
Once the shard is destroyed, quickly run back to the starting area where Mellka and Deande area. You can also pick up some shards along the way to power any gear you may have or build more turrets and traps.
Resident District Shard
The path to the right will lead to the Resident District Shard. Again, it is impossible to kill all the enemies in this area. The objective should be to reach the skull marker on the mini-map and kill anything in the area until the path to the west opens up.
Follow the way point to the Resident District Shard next. If you need to heal, crack open some chests for more power ups. Don't forget about your Helix upgrades and Gear.
The Residential District Shard is at the end of the path. Stand on the yellow shard pad to unlock the shard, then kill anything within the area until the objective on the right side of the screen says 3/3. Build some turrets or traps if necessary, just don't leave the area until the objective is complete.
With the second shard destroyed, return to the starting area as quickly as possible. Stand on the yellow shard pad before the time runs out to reach the final boss.
Boss Battle: Rendain
Rendain isn't too tough of a boss for the first part of this battle. All you need to do is eliminate his shield (the blue bar) while staying alive. He will attack with melee attacks. The majority of his attacks are close range, but some can extend pretty far. If you're using a Battleborn with melee attacks, try to stay behind him while attacking. Keep moving around and attacking until his shield is taken down.
Boss Battle: Varelsi Maligner
Rendain will run away after his shield is taken down. Your next opponent is Varelsi Maligner, a boss you've fought before. You will be fighting several bosses from previous missions until Rendain decides to fight again.
Locate the boss on the mini-map by the red marker. It will summon a few other Varelsi to fight by its side. You can destroy the weaker Varelsi to prevent health loss, but try focusing on Varelsi Maligner. Use any of your skills that target multiple enemies at once.
Boss Battle: Thrall Foreman Grall
The second boss is Thrall Foreman Grall. Remember, this boss will throw his swords at you and use melee attacks. Take of 33% of his health, and the foreman will encase himself in a shield and summon Foreman Phantoms and Varelsi. These little wisps will sap your health if you get near them. Try to use long range attacks to destroy them.
Once these phantoms are taken care of, the foreman's shield will come down. Attack him again until he has about 33% of his health left. Again, he will put up a shield and send out Foreman Phantoms and Varelsi. Take care of them all to bring down his shield and end the fight.
Boss Battle: Bagranth the Gunhulk
The third boss is Bagranth the Gunhulk. This boss is immune to all damage because of its shields. Use your shards to activate the veil breaker turrets nearby. These special turrets' only function is to break Bagranth's shields and sap some of its health. Bagranth will try to destroy the turrets, so keep building them and collecting shards until the shield is destroyed.
A few Varelsi will appear during the battle to destroy the turrets, as well. All you need to do is protect the turrets, build more turrets if needed, and wait for Bagranth's shield to go down. Once the shield is down, quickly go to Bagranth and attack before it comes back up again. When Bagranth's health reaches 50%, it shouldn't try creating a shield again. Use all your skills and weaponry to take it down.
Boss Battle: Rendain
Now comes the real battle. Rendain is highly aggressive in this fight. He has a few attacks in his line up which you need to look out for. First up is an extending arm attack which can reach a decent distance and even surround you. If this attack touches you, not only will you take a bit of damage, but you won't be able to use any skills for several seconds.
If you get too close, Rendain will use a series of regular melee attacks that may push you back far. The most troublesome attack is his spinning blades attack. Rendain will send out three spinning blades that follow you a short distance. Not only do they damage you, but they launch you into the air if you touch them. Being launched into the air is very dangerous on this field since you can fall off the edge of the map and instantly die. If you go too far into the air, try to move over some part of land.
Rendain won't fight alone. A few Thrall will accompany him from time to time. Quickly defeat them to take the pressure off you. If your health gets too low, search for chests with health and other boosts. Don't be afraid to run from battle for a short time, but expect Rendain to be close behind.
Drain Rendain's health meter and he will stop attacking for a short time. You can land a few more hits here if you like, but eventually the two of you will be sent back to Mellka and Deande. One final cut scene will play, and the story will end.
