Shards and Buildables
Credits aren't the only form of currency in Battleborn. Shards are also used as currency during a Multiplayer game mode or Story Mode episode. Use shards to activate gear in your loadout or to build various items at nodes. Nodes are simply metal platforms laid around the map.
Shards can be obtained in several ways. A small amount of shards can be picked up after walking over a small orangish-red shard cluster on the ground, a small to medium amount of shards can be picked up after defeating an enemy or completing an objective in a multiplayer game mode, and a medium to large amount of shards can be picked up after destroying medium to large shard cluster that are positioned around a map.
Buildables are necessary to win a multiplayer game or to prevent failure during a story mode episode. In the story mode, various buildables can be created at each build station pad; however, in the multiplayer, only one type of buildable can be created at each node.
Turrets are used as defensive buildables, and can be upgraded twice in multiplayer with even more shards. There are shock turrets, stinger turrets, and thumper turrets. Shock turrets fire electricity, stinger turrets fire lasers, and thumper turrets fire rockets. If an enemy turret is currently at a node, you must destroy it before building your own. In multiplayer, a 20 second recharge period is required before another turret can be built on that node.
Accelerators are buildables that speed up nearby friendly minions and players, and reduces the speed of nearby enemy minions and players. These buildables are very useful for minions since they are often slow to get around the map. In multiplayer, a 20 second recharge period is required before another turret can be built on that node.
Supply stations are buildables that heal all nearby friendly Battleborn. Like turrets, Supply Stations can be upgraded twice in multiplayer. If an enemy supply station is currently built on a node, you must destroy it before building your own. In multiplayer, a 20 second recharge period is required before another turret can be built on that node.
Minions are AI-controlled robots. The small and medium-sized minions will automatically spawn on the map, but the larger minions must be built using shards at specific build pads. These bots help the team in different ways during each multiplayer game mode, whether it's taking down a sentry shield or earning more points at minion grinders.
Traps are buildables that only activate when enemies are near them – they do not hurt friendly players. Flash traps stun opponents and take down their shields, temporal traps slow down enemies, and inferno traps damage enemies by setting them on fire for a short time.
Drones are buildables that follow the builder and serve various purposes, but they still must be built at a node. Temporal drones slow down nearby enemies, assault drones attack nearby enemies, and repair drones heal nearby characters and buildables.
