Zombies List
There are dozens of zombies to manage in the apocalyptic survival game 7 Days to Die. Our list takes a look at each and every one of them, categorized and named so you know exactly what type of zombie is shuffling your way.
But there are more than zombies after your tender flesh. 7 Days to Die also includes animals and zombie animals, many of which are hostile. With that in mind, we included every dangerous enemy in the game — undead or otherwise.
Zombie Types
There are four zombie types in 7 Days to Die. Naturally, you'll mostly contend with regular "walker" zombies that slowly shuffle your way. But there are stronger types, as well as zombified animals roaming the landscape.
Normal Zombie
Normal Zombies are your typical, garden-variety zombies. Humanoid in form, they move slowly and wander without much purpose in their afterlife. These are the zombies you'll see most often in the early and mid-game. Weak and slow, you can generally take them out by aiming for the head with a bow, firearm, or melee weapon.
Normal Zombies are found in every biome in 7 Days to Die. They're the fodder that fills the streets and Places of Interest (POI) you visit. Some share similar builds and animations, and several zombies are the same but sport different names and clothing.
Strong Zombie
Strong Zombies, as true to the name, are like Normal Zombies but often larger in build and with more health and damage. Most are heavyset or obese and can take and dish out more damage than their smaller cousins.
Like Normal Zombies, Strong Zombies are found in every biome, but some can be more common in certain areas than others. The strategy is also the same: Go for the head. Even with their larger health pool, they'll eventually crumple.
Special Zombie
Special Zombies are zombies that don't fit in the prior categories. There is only one variant for each Special Zombie. They also have unique behaviors and abilities, making some of them easily the most dangerous enemies you'll face in 7 Days to Die.
Special Zombies can be rare until you make more progress in 7 Days to Die, with a couple appearing only during the late stage. You may face one or two during an early quest, but they won't be common until you've made a lot more progress.
Animal Zombie
Like it says on the tin, Animal Zombies are animals that have been zombified. There aren't many varieties, but Zombie Animals are common in 7 Days to Die. Expect to see zombie dogs just about everywhere, ready to tear into your flesh.
Zombie Behavior
Zombies in 7 Days to Die showcase different behaviors based on context. During the day, most Normal and Strong Zombies tend to wander around aimlessly. But by night, they become more ferocious. The way they react to players and animals also differs, and sometimes they may not be traveling alone.
Daytime
During the day, zombies shuffle around looking for prey. If they spot you, they'll make a beeline in your direction but won't move much faster than the norm. In POIs such as houses and buildings, zombies are often easy to sneak up on.
They may be hiding behind doors, but you can also find some slouched over or lying on the ground. By crouching, you can stealth attack them for extra damage. Doing so can alert nearby zombies, so keep that in mind.
Nighttime
When the light fades at 22:00, zombies change. They become "Feral," a word used to describe zombies that turn ravenous, and able to move faster than normal. Basically, in zombie movie terms it's the difference between a "walker" and a "runner." Try and stay indoors at night, as zombies can easily chase you down and swarm you. Zombies return to their daytime behavior starting at 04:00.
Wandering Horde
On rare occasions, you may come across a wandering horde of zombies. Hordes are often large groups, made up of Normal and Strong Zombies. Staying out of their way is wise unless you have to means to take on many at once.
Animals
Zombies hunger for flesh, even if it doesn't come from humans. Rarely, you may see a zombie and animal fighting for the title of the post-apocalypse's apex predator. If the zombie wins, it'll feast on the animal. You can also kill an animal to use as bait for zombies.
Feral Zombies and Radiated Zombies
All Zombie types can also fall into an even rarer classification of Feral or Radiated. Feral Zombies have more health and can deal higher damage, and, like nighttime zombies, are always running. They stand out by their aggressive nature and glowing, orange eyes. Keep in mind that Wights are always Feral.
Radiated Zombies are a step up from Feral and become more common during the later stages of the game. They're easy to spot, as they're just as mean as Feral Zombies but glow green. Radiated Zombies are even stronger and will regenerate health. Killing them takes time, but you can halt their regeneration by using a Rad Remover Mod on the gun you use to kill them.
