How to Play Crossplay in 7 Days to Die
Tackling the dangerous world of 7 Days to Die isn't something you have to do by yourself. Don't go alone! Join a friend in crossplay instead. Here's our guide on how to play crossplay in 7 Days to Die.
7 Days to Die Crossplay Explained
At this time, crossplay isn't available between PC and console owners of 7 Days to Die. The legacy version of the game, which was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016, does not have crossplay support with the game on PC.
Information on console crossplay for the classic version of the game is a bit confusing. For the most part, PlayStation and Xbox players were (and likely still can) connect and play together via peer-to-peer hosting. But the original console edition of the game hasn't been supported for many years, so the ease and quality of the connection today seems dubious at best.
The current PC version of 7 Days to Die does support crossplay between Steam and the Windows Store. Those who own the game on Game Pass can easily hook up with friends on Steam and work together to survive the zombie apocalypse.
Steam and Game Pass on PC Crossplay
Steam and Game Pass users can play together in 7 Days to Die via crossplay. Doing so doesn't require sharing passcodes, which is a requirement of some games.
Setting up a crossplay session between the two clients requires a few steps between the host and the guest player(s).
To open up a current game to crossplay, select "Continue Game" and choose the game server. In the "General" tab, you can choose the Server Visibility and Password for your game. You can change the visibility so that only friends can see your server among others in a server list. For the most part, it's suggested you at least make a password to keep your game private.
To join a game server, select "Join A Game" in the main menu. The game will allow you to choose search options in a "Filters" menu. Add the server's name in the "Server Name" option and then select "Start Search."
After the search is finished, select the icon at the top of the Server Browser showing two people standing next to each other. This will display the list of live peer-to-peer games. You should see the name of the server in this list. Select it, press "Connect," add a password (if available), and press "Submit." If all goes well, you'll be slaying zombies and harvesting Coal with friends in no time.
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC Crossplay
The developer launched the 1.0 version of 7 Days to Die on July 25, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. Since the team plans to have full update parity across all platforms, crossplay is scheduled for the game. But it won't be at launch.
According to the team's 2024-2025 roadmap, 7 Days to Die will receive crossplay support sometime in Q4 2024 when the game's first update, Storm's Brewing, goes live. The developer has noted that this date is subject to change, which means crossplay support could be delayed.
